    Yes, I have.

I've got a feeling that it depends on when your first payment went in though. Am I right in thinking you've not paid anything into the RS yet? If not, that blows my theory out of the water! (Also it doesn't seem logical that you would have opened the account and not paid anything in yet, if you are looking to make another payment on July 1st - unless you don't yet have the funds.)

I opened my RS over the phone last night and asked for the SO to be set up for the first payment to go from my HICA to my RS as soon as possible. This meant today (next working day). Payment went through fine, so this morning I changed the SO so the next payment goes out of the HICA/into the RS on July 1st.

If you haven't made a payment via SO yet, this may be the reason why. Otherwise, I have no idea

After setting up SO from Halifax current account to make initial payment to Regular Saver, I've just tried to amend the existing SO online to the 1st July etc, and a message appeared saying that "this standing order can only be amended to pay other organisations. To pay an account with us, you'll need to set up a new standing order." I'd already spoken to Halifax about this and was told that I can make amendments to SO. Has anyone else managed to change a Halifax SO that goes to their Halifax Regular Saver account?

I have an existing Halifax current account and I've opened my 10% (+2%) regular saver and guarentee saver within 15 minutes in the branch.

you can open it by application form in a branch, meaning no appointment, will be opened later, as long as id verified

    or by telephone, or internet

I applied online last Friday and got an email saying I would receive my online password soon to access the account. I went in to the local branch today and said I had applied online and wanted to bring in my ID (passport in this case) to move things along. The lady called up my details, photocopied my passport, printed out a 'New Account Form' to sign and I completed a SO form.

I then wandered across the road to the Abbey (my current account bank), handed in the SO form with instructions to make the 1st payment on 1/7 and the last one on 1/6/09 and withdrew £500 cash

Then I wandered back into the Halifax, queued up and paid in the cash with my freshly printed 'New Account Form'.

When I got home I checked the online details for the SO (which stated it commenced 24/6/8 indefinitely) so I amended it to start on 1st July with 12 payments.

I also opened the Guaranteed Saver as the nominated account and have just transferred 5K online into it with the account details from my original online app.

I hope that covered everything! Maybe there is an easier way but I need to see real people sometimes.

I see what you mean about real people. If HSBC can send out faster payment, does it mean the standing order on the 1st of every month will arrive on the 1st of every month without incurring a fee?

I've already made a SO payment into it. I tried to amend it again this morning and it just won't allow it. Looks like I'll have to cancel the SO and set up a new one instead. Thanks anyway.

Today's SO has gone through and I was able to amend to first of July so not sure what went wrong your end.
At least you have a workaround.

I've just realised what that nice chappy of yours was suggesting to you..... Two high interest current accounts that require £1000 pcm funding to get the 5.12%.
    What an idiot!
I presume your Mum doesn't have a spare 2k per month to fund two current accounts?
    Hi there sloughflint
I KNOW worked it out !!!! shes ended up going with bradford and bingley at a straight 7% much better and more straightforward idea.

When you sign up over the phone, do they give you sort code and account number straight away so that one can make a payment immediately without having to wait for the paperwork to come through?

And bizarrely for me, I only did it that way because my main Hfx current a/c wasn't included in the drop down list of accounts to set up the S/O from (although my other Hfx current a/c was - odd!), so that may have been a blessing in disguise!

Sigh...went to change the date of my S/O from the 23rd to the 1st July, and it came up with a message telling me I couldn't do that with an internal account.

I'm thinking it only let me set it up as if it was an external payment because I did it so quickly after opening the RS a/c (maybe the sort code and a/c number they gave me hadn't registered as being 'internal' at that point).

So I've had to cancel my original S/O and set up a new one - and no options for number of payments or a reference appeared this time. Grrr, I wish they'd stop thwarting my control-freak tendencies! :o
