Don't know if this would cause problems, or has happened to anyone else...

but when I first opened the account online it gave me an account number and sort code... I immediately set up a standing order to pay into that account, but today I just checked the confirmation letter.... the sort code and account number on the letter are totally different.

Luckily the payment hadn't gone yet, but god knows where it would have ended up if it had...

This is worrying, I set mine up a couple of days ago, for SO to come out today, I assumed (like you would) that the account numbers they gave me were THE account numbers, why would they need to change them?

Im hoping that you were looking at the account number for the linked account as suggested by someone else, otherwise my £500 has dissappeared!!!!

    Can you confirm anything morph3us?
  • Took the plunge....

Closed my April aniversary Halifax Regular Saver yesterday (Sunday) by phone, could not create a new 10% account until today because the new account system was not working.
Anyway new account opened today and transfered first payment in (from linked account) I was told I must make my next deposit by SO anytime from 1st to 20th of July.

Tesco Esaver appears to be the among the best of the clean ones where you can SO directly .. and not have to go via a link :-

I went to change my Standing order date to the 1st of July, and on the Barclay's standing order set up it has a drop down list and the 1st of the month is not on that list.
Although I made my first payment on the 16th June, would it be best to start my monthly standing order again and put down 1st July for the first payment date and than monthly after that.

I wonder if this is another case of staff not understanding the rules. Seems they have remembered the 20 July date (for opening the account) and think that July's payment has to be made in that period even if one has been made in June. Or is it me?

Thanks for the explanation YB, and sloughflint for doing the maths! I'll have to save those formulae somewhere.

I closed my 7% RS last night and opened a new 10% one, along with a Guaranteed Saver Reward. First SO payment has already gone in and I've switched the date of the next one to 1st July. Both accounts are showing up on online banking as "awaiting details" as others have reported. The guy did mention that I would receive some forms in the post which I would have to sign and send back though.

I won't be able to fund the Guaranteed Saver Reward until I get paid at the end of the month but was assured this wouldn't be a problem.

The scariest thing about this whole experience was that not once was I asked any security questions  This seems to be happening a lot lately - Lloyds didn't ask me for any before they started discussing my account with them either...

    Suze

1st payment earns interest for 12 months, 2nd for 11 months...and so on until the last payment only earns interest for 1 month.

    12/12 + 11/12 + ..... + 2/12 + 1/12 = 78/12 = 6.5

It won't be accurate if you mess with the paying in dates (as you probably should do with this one to maximise the return), but for a straight, same day each month regular saver which matures on the anniversary of the first deposit it's close enough.

    Hello all,

would like to enquire on opinions about advice on opening the Halifax savings account.

I have already my maximum in the ISA, I have £500 with Kaupthing Edge and have recently opened an A & L current account 8%. Is there any point in opening the new Halifax savings?

    thanks in advance

Do you mean £500 ( ie considering drip-feeding£40 odd pounds per month) or £5000 that you are considering putting in a nominated account to gain the 12 %?
Either way, yes you would make more money than your current set up.....as long as you do not need access to your cash for the year ( KE and A&L are instant access)
  • Can someone answer the following for me:

how long does it take in the branch?
Do you need to make an appointment?

I'm going for the 10% as i dont have a spare 5k, so can i open one of these account this saturday and set the SO from my halifax account on the 1st?

It might be long winded but I was planning to put all my money into the A&L account, which earns 8.5% for £2,500 in credit, also some in my lloyds 6.5% in credit. Combined i think these rates combined is better than most clean savings account. Question here is, is there any high street banks which can transfer £500 into the halifax RS instantly (without charging a fee)? If not then i would take my money out of these high interest CA, and desposit the £500 by walknig into the haliafx branch.
