    Thanks for your reply.

They did open a guaranteed saver account at the same time, but it got closed because I didn't have the minimum amount required to deposit at the time to keep it open. Is it too late now to link another account to my Regular Saver? If I open a web saver account, can I nominate that through online banking?
    I'd give them a ring on 08457 26 36 46.

You can change your nominated account during the year but I don't think this can be done online.

Sometimes this forum is indispensable. I just wanted to thank you again for the above info which I would have overlooked, and which the Hellifax clerk actually contradicted. I went back today and set up a Guaranteed Saver account with a 'promise' to transfer £5,000 within 14 days. And Now I qualify for the 12% on my RS as well as get a decent 6.25% fixed rate on my £5,000. I wasted a second afternoon by having to go back into town, but got to express my displeasure to the manager and potentially earned an extra £100 in interest, so not a bad trade-off really.

    high five! :D

I had to go back to post #902 on page 46 of this thread to remember the hassle I had to go through to open the Guaranteed Saver account in July last year. The first clerk didn't believe that it existed and then didn't think it could be linked, and finally maintained that there wouldn't be time for a cheque to clear before the offer was finished anyway. Hence I had to open a Websaver or something with a minimum of £50 to serve as a nominated account. Extremely unhappy about this I had to take the day off work the following day so I could go back in and see someone more senior who apologised and set up the Guaranteed Saver account for me instead where I transferred the remainder of the £5k. I thought that would be the end of it, but clearly I have to now go and speak to someone even more senior!
  • Can one withdraw without penalty on the Halifax 10% fixed rate regular saver? I thought so but they tell me I cant

    No withdrawals allowed. You can:

    1) Close the account, but you will only receive the Web Saver (no card) rate which has dropped to 1.1% recently.

    2) Reduce your monthly contribution to as little as £25 in order to free up future cash.

This may be one of those occasions where, depending on your plans, getting a 0% on purchases credit card may be the solution.

Blimey, there are some confused people posting on this thread! More money than sense? Sorry to be negative, but the last couple of pages of this thread are a total waste of time.

(PS - my guaranteed saver is still showing 6.25% thank you very much, but then I read, understood, and complaied with the |T&Cs when opening the accounts!)

    Is that not the idea?

    if you are confused: post

If you are not confused: don't :D

Unless it is your intention to aid those in need, of course.

The "confused" people (and I'm being polite here!) were posting "facts" that were simply wrong, not asking questions.

Post facts or ask questions, I think that's the idea!

It was also unhelpful to resurrect a post entitled "Halifax to relaunch regular saver @10%+" when that particular offer was dead and buried a long time ago!

Not so much polite: you were simply confused as to the proper terminology to use. :p

Misinformed, perhaps, may have been more appropriate.

    hi all,
sorry to jump in but with the current climate, and my inability to find the answer on their website I figured some kind soul here would know.. I signed up in July for the 12% Regular Saver account (I had enough in my other savings account)
I see it's now a 5% account when you set one up..
Do I get the 12% still, provided I keep the a/c with over £5k in? :o
I'm not great with T&C's and I keep getting lost
    Thanks in advance!

If you keep your £5K account and you continue the fund the RS once a month then you get 12% until expiry.
