I think i've got the worst toothache in the world, yet can i find a dentist that is taking NHS charge exempt patients before late october can i f.....
So now i'm having to drag the kids, and my mum (whos driving) to an emergency nhs dentist 20+ miles away which opens 6-8 and if i cant be seen i think i will probably cry....
Why is there such a wait to join, even in an emergency which i explained that it was.

Surely whether you pay your NHS charges or not they should treat you! You are obviously in pain, I sympathise!
I am with a private dentist - it was NHS but then they decided to private and I have to pay over £16 a month to see the dentist twice a year - I feel this is a rip off and if I could get another NHS dentist I would!

£16 .......Oh, if only mine was soooooo cheap!!!! I paid £264 for 3 check ups in last year! My plan is £22 a month and is going up another quid next year. Its not that I can afford it, I had no choice when there was no NHS treatment available. I think there is some cover now but its basically emergency only from what I have heard.0 -
Gosh, and I thought mine was bad at £16, that sounds awful does £22!
Plus each time I do go to my dentist he manages to make something go wrong a day or two after appointment. I had an appointment in May and he said I needed a couple of fillings (hate the damn things!), but for the next week was in agony and ended up seeing another dentist in the practice as normal one was on holiday, he took a tooth out straight away, one of the ones that was going to have been filled - he said it needed to be taken out as it was awful. I went back for the other filling a month later and the day after I had seen him my tooth chipped!

I can wholly recommend finding a good reliable dentist when you are abroad
some of my holidays involve a trip to a dentist!!!!
Hope your toothache is better soon.

No dentist - blame the government.
Increase in NHS spend (excluding dentistry) in last 6 years - 75%
Increase in dentistry spend in last 15 (yes 15 yrs) - 0 (zero) %.
The bad news is thaT THINGS WILL ONYL GET WORSE WHen (xcl) the new contract is introduced next yr.
A dentist gets paid less for doing a filling (a medical procedure after all) on your child than it costs to buy a donner kebab.
BTW - Out of the money he or she gets they have to pay ALL the expenses of owning and running and staffing the practice.
If little Johnny is afraid and nice NHS dentist tries for 45 mins to do filling and eventually fails, dentist gets paid ZERO, so little Johnny has cost the dentist approx £45 in costs.
Amount that money gov pays a dentist to give you preventative advice (ie how to look after your teeth) - ZERO

well went to the emergency dentist and they gave me some painkillers and some antibiotics!!!! needless to say i'm still in agony and one side of my face has swollen up. i think i have an abcess under my manky tooth.
The emer dentist said when i go to my new dentist they will probably do root canal and put a filling in even though i dont see how as half the tooth is missing and i'd rather have it removed than suffer ths pain again.
oh well roll on 12th Oct when i have a dentist appointment...Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts0 -
i dont know where you are lyndsay but i use liverpool dental hospital and i think theres one in manchester. You have to get there early but if your face is swelled up they usually see you quite fast and its free.weekdays only thoughA shadowy flight into the dangerous world of a man who does not exist.

I've got a thread on here somewhere about finding a private dentist. That bit isn't relevant to you but I can say that I was given antibiotics for my abcess and you do need them first to kill the infection. One week in and although I still have the dodgy tooth I am in much less pain. Plus I didn't realise until I got better that I actually had an infection - I felt lousy before I had nearly completed the course of antibiotics. It will be much less painful to have work done when the antibiotics have worked on the abcess. The emer dentist said when i go to my new dentist they will probably do root canal and put a filling in even though i dont see how as half the tooth is missing and i'd rather have it removed than suffer ths pain again.

My appointment is on Monday and I am having root canal treatment although I did have the option of root canal or the tooth removing. I have half my tooth missing too and the rest that I can see is nearly all fillling. Apparently they may be able to save it so I think its worth while. You shouldn't suffer the same pain again once it is treated either way. Abcesses, apparently are one of the most painful things about and I can certainly vouch for that so you have my sympathy. Once the abcess has subsided the 'big' pain should also.
edited to add my thread is in the health boardI live in my own little world. But it's okay. They know me here.0 -
Much easier solution ... get friendly with a couple of dentists and they will see you whenever you need to (even out of hours) ... just offer to buy them a couple of pints and fix their computers in return. Works for me
ivanI don't care about your first world problems; I have enough of my own!0
