Australia sounds good ...
One of our friends who's a 'permanent resident' tells of visiting Spanish friends and asking why they had buckets around the house to collect the leaking water!
The answer was, of course, really Spanish.....why spend money on the roof when it only rains a few days a year???0 -
Sorry to be commenting on oldish posts - have been busy lately and not got here often!
Fresh milk in Spain - I guess it's generally very good where there are Brit communities - higher throughput!
Menu del dia prices - the reverse is true of these - expensive where there are Brits! We recently drove up through Spain and found €6.95 menus compared to the average €10 we usually see.0 -
I understand there are big differences between the Costa Blanca and Andalucia too. One of our neighbours went to Andalucia and found it very expensive.

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
Andalucia varies as regards prices. It is far more expensive as a whole than it used to be.
Out here in the sticks things are not as expensive as on the Costas.
But everybody put the prices up during the recession.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
You also have to remember that here in rural Andalucia, they are only one generation removed from illiteracy. I know people younger than me who have only had a few years of schooling, and people ten years older who are illiterate.
Therefore when they start running shops and bars, they are not the world's greatest business people.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

That seems to have been true on a number of things. But all it has done is to reduce demand even more!
On MdelDs, we certainly eat out less.
I guess Spanish 'economics' teaching isn't what I'm used to!0 -
I'd like to be a harbinger of joy!*
The pound has gone well over 1,15€ today.
