How far is this volcanic cloud set to reach?--some turkish news reports are saying people should wear masks because of the very small invasive particles--people on the radio in the uk are commenting about strange (to them) hay fever symptoms-

Have been listening to BBC 5 Live. No mention of any health problems. No masks being worn. My SIL said last night that she has a thin covering of grey dust on her car. No health worries reported on any TV or radio news bulletin I've seen or heard, and nothing on BBC web site.

ETA: Change of wind direction anticipated for the weekend.

  • My son's flight was cancelled :(

He and his girlfriend dom't want to waste their time off work trying to make alternative arrangements to get to Spain, they are going to visit a friend in Cambridgeshire and get a refund from BMIbaby. Which I personally feel is the right decision.

Yes, I'm sure they were right. Disappointing for all concerned. Hope they get to come over to see you very soon.

We have a colleague stranded in Thailand with 2 young children, hoping to get to Spain by the weekend, but who knows how she'll get home from there, I've suggested she should just get there and assess the situation then, because we have no idea what will be going on by then.

And another colleague says she's heard that if you only take out travel insurance NOW, you can't claim on it for Ash because it's a known and foreseeable problem. Ouch!

ds, I've just read your signature. Why can't we take that to heart?

Sue, my sig is, as you see, not a new comment, and was also uttered by an American. (Actually, I had to shorten it for this forum, and wasn't able even to put in some dots where I cut). I could rant on all day about such things, but in the end, have to ask the same question as you. It's a mad world. (Cue Gary Jules).

Hi all, my car too is covered in grey ash. Was strange when I was out and about today, everybody's car was the same. You can write on the back window. Guess I will have to wash it.

Still haven't a clue if I will fly out next Wednesday. Going to book a Eurolines Coach as a back up. £35 return to Amsterdam. If my flight is confirmed then I just lose the money for the coach. Will wait another 24 hours to see how Gatwick gets on. I live under the Gatwick airport flight path and it is so strange not to see the planes every 5 minutes. Clear blue skies and no vapour trails. One school under the Heathrow flightpath and very close to the airport is loving every minute. No noise, no shouting to make yourself understood and the kids can play outside in peace and not have to shout to communicate. Strange world at the moment. The power of nature makes us all humble.

Have missed my flight on Thursday to Cyprus as stuck in Los Angeles. I was rather hoping that air space wasn't opened until Friday and they would rebook us ..... but not too worried. Will rebook a flight when we get back.

Due to fly Luxembourg - Paris - Miami next Monday. Now looking a bit positive. I hope.
Quite a lot of flights leaving Luxembourg today and Air France say 100% intercontinental are going today.
There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.
