And what Jane's up to.Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -

Hi everyone.
I'm visiting a friend with a laptop today so thought I'd catch up with you all. France Telecom are officially the worst utility company in the world! They still haven't connected me to the internet and my French does not extend to having to keep going over all the various problems they have caused me. I now have a lovely British lady there who has taken over my case and, with any luck, will be back online soon. We are still organising the house and had our first visitors last week - a challenge as the house really isn't ready yet!
Anyway, hope to catch up from my own PC soon!

Hi, Kathy.
Hope things are sorted for you soon. Also hope you're having some fun amid the disruption!Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -
Interesting research results published on how different countries cater for their young people, and on the quality of life for young people. You can read about it on the BBC site, where there are further links to explore if you wish.
In short, of 29 countries studied, the UK came 24th in a "league table" of yong people's well-being. Here is the ranking, which may explain one of the reasons people are leaving the UK.
1 Netherlands
2 Sweden
3 Norway
4 Iceland
5 Finland
6 Denmark
7 Slovenia
8 Germany
9 Ireland
10 Luxembourg
11 Austria
12 Cyprus
13 Spain
14 Belgium
15 France
16 Czech Republic
17 Slovakia
18 Estonia
19 Italy
20 Poland
21 Portugal
22 Hungary
23 Greece
24 United Kingdom

Hi all. Long time no here! Have been following MWs example and researching history. But when you're a Davies and your family came from Wales, that's not easy!!!
Anyway, a few words to add to previous comments.....Have you visited any of the 'film' sets in Tabernas, there seem to be several. We live about 1hr away and are toying with going next week. Is there one you would recommend
Sandy
We visited the Oasys park (previously Mini Hollywood) and thought it great value. Also has a small zoo attached. Two live shows and an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet that was out of this world. They say it's too hot to handle in July/August! And don't wear open-top sandals as the sand gets in everywhere.
Their website seems to have disappeared this year - wonder if they've closed down?
Also drove around the Spag. Western sets route on Cabo de Gata, east of Almeria town.
Here's a great website for anyone interested in this...

Should have been impressive? They say most of Europe's palm crosses come from Elche just down the road.seven-day-weekend wrote: »Oh agree droopsnout, loads of experience, even in a voluntary capacity.
Forgot to say, the one thing one early employer WAS interested in was that in the sixth form my son had done Young Enterprise (running a business - his school came second in the West Midlands and my son was voted Young Acheiver of the year by the rest of his group and won a prize!) - but this shows skills and abilities that are of use in the workplace, so I can imagine an employer may be interested in that.
As an ex-chair of a local area YE board in Brum, can I say how pleased I am to hear that! If only the Government had really worked with YE to develop the programme, rather than running a whole range of 'new' enterprise initiatives, I believe young people would be getting more value out of their middle years education than they are.
Anyway, now I've caught up, I can get on the plane to Murcia tomorrow with a clear conscience!
(ps.....nearly up to €1.13 again today!)0 -

My son only did one year in the sixth form (didn't want to carry on with his A levels) , but he really enjoyed YE, I can remember him running after a prospective customer after she'd disappeared into Marks and Spencers as he'd found just the item she was looking for(She bought it).
It also does teach them useful and transferable skills about running a business and the world of work, so I thought it was an excellent scheme.
Do they not do it now then? What a great shame.
Enjoy your holiday!(AKA HRH_MUngo)
