You probably know that it is dearer to renew your passport in your new country than it is in the UK. In fact, renewal costs £72 in the UK, and yet in the region of 145€ here.
If you would like to protest against this ridiculous and blatant money-making by the UK government, there is an e-petition at the Prime Minister's website.
Please go to: http://petitions.number10.gov.uk/passportcosts/.
Thank you.Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
Don't know if fellow poster Sloan is still around, but I sincerely hope that he isn't involved in this nightmare.Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930

Oops!
Sorry, sloan!
Incidentally, the passport petition has achieved considerable momentum. It is being Twittered about, so I read.Much of the social history of the Western world over the past three decades has involved replacing what worked with what sounded good. - Thomas Sowell, "Is Reality Optional?", 19930 -
For the uninitiated and those who love trivia - Today is a big whooppeeeee day in Holland. Koninginadag or The Queen's official birthday. Its a public holiday upon which you can sell anything to anybody on the street with no usual laws applicable. When I lived there it was a day when you couldn't get done for adultery either!!! Its a crazy fun day and the country is a swathe of Orange. Queen Beatrix tours one town or village each year with the rest of the royals in tow. If you are keen on pictures check www.koninklijkhuis.nl this evening and see for yourself.member # 12 of Skaters Club

Thanks DS - I have been out most of the afternoon and only just tuned in. Wow - I tuned into the Dutch version and it appears to have been deliberate. Quite strange that I tell you all about the day and all of a sudden the whole world will hear about it.member # 12 of Skaters Club

Oh DS - you will love this...never seen such rubbish translation. Google ...de telegraf.. hit the translate button and you go to the front page of the National Dutch Newspaper. I will go back to the Dutch version and get the latest.member # 12 of Skaters Club

Hi DS - You probably have seen that the driver of the car in the carnage yesterday in Appledorn has died. It is such a shame and I wonder what his intention really was. Koninginedag has always been a fun and happy party day in the Dutch year and in all the years I have known it I have never heard of one single mishap.
Thanks for giving me advice on how to receive my emails - havn't had much chance to work it out yet been too busy in the garden and getting ready for my holiday. The long range weather forecast for Loch Fyne, and Cairndow is rain all week until Saturday and Sunday, but that is when the festivities are on so it might be OK.member # 12 of Skaters Club
