I am sure you will be able to do it Lucy. I am also writing down these ideas. BOBxBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
Still lurking around with a hope of some salvation:cool:0 -
Good luck its really good that you have something to aim for, you will find it easier to keep focused. Whenever you can feel yourself dragging just picture yourself in America that will keep you on track. Why not start a spending diary and see if there are any areas you are wasting money on ~ all the extra money you save can go towards your spending money.Proud to be Dealing with my Debts

Thanks!
I think I will dig out a note book at home and start a spending diary. I am just having a look at the cost of flights to see what sort of amount I really need.
Virgin have a sale on at the moment.... £347 for flights this june!!Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Wow thats a brilliant price.
Would you be going through Quidco as well? Could save some extra money that way?

Are they one quidco? If I can i will!!
Unfortunately I can go this June, but I've seen flights with them in the sale at that sort of price before so will hold out and hope for Jan 09!!Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Just double checked, Virgin Atlantic are on Quidco (1% cashback).
At least you know how low they can be... im sure they will be even better in January sales.

I've just realised that I have £75 tracking in Quidco from my car insurance, I was going to pay this off my cc but I think I will pop it in my America fund in stead and make another £75 to add to my cc.
I know that can be low, so I will try really hard to get a sale flight, even if I have to wait a little!!Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
hi lucy, fab news on the holiday front.
last year i decided to visit my twin in aus, my son and i are heading out this december. well on the saving and debt front, im a bit like you! im still paying the bills, but managing to save £220 pound a month. Yes it can be done, by december i will have saved £3,000 pounds.
This is how i have nearly managed it. Firstly i put away £75 in a saving account for a year. this matures soon and it will go straight towards paying for the flights, £1250 each!!!! It good your trying to get an idea of the price of flights.
with the outstanding money each month, as soon as i had booked the flights i have just gone to the travel agent and paid what ever i have put aside straight away, at the begining of the month. This makes sure you will not spend it!!
I was also given a terrimundi by my sis. and this is my surprise for the end of the saving period i have set myself. How it works i put in all my silver at the end of each food shopping trip and any birthday money or any form of cash given to you by anyone or the spare cash you find under the sofa put in there. then before your holiday the money that is in there will be extra to treat yourself on your hols. im opening mine a month before we go! everytime i look at it i try to guess how much is in there, it gets you excited!!
have a five pence pot, you'll be amased how quickly you will save these and also have a penny pot, keeps you motivated to take the coinage to the bank.Terrimundi saver :money:
trying to keep the cat out of the vets!! :eek:0 -
Wow sounds like you are going to have a fab trip!!
I have seen some Terrimundis recently, but they were so pretty I wouldn't want to break them in the end!!! I have a couple of piggy banks I will bring back into use and be really strict about no spending any of it.
I have nearly £400 in my car account which I haven't touched so I know I can do it!Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
Ok
I decided last night to stick all of my coppers into a bumble bee I have at home. There was already some in there.
So the current grand total for the America fund = £1.04p!!! :rotfl:
Still it is more than I had yesterday  And we all need to start somewhere!!
Taxed my car for a year yesterday (£120) but I now don't need to think about it at christmas, and the money came out of my car savings so that's ok.
Right aiming for a cheap day today, and I am so glad it's friday!! :TCurrent debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0
