Anyone have the recipe for a big bakewell tart?
I use a 9" flan dish for this one
Jam - Strawberry or Raspberry
4oz Marg
4oz Caster sugar
2 eggs
2oz SR Four
2oz Ground Almonds (I use more though)
Line the flan dish with pastry.
Spread the base of the pastry with Strawberry or Raspberry Jam
In a seperate bowl cream together the marg, sugar and then add the eggs, flour and ground almonds.
Spoon the almond mixture over the jan and even it out
Bake for 20 mins (or until a knife comes out clean) on 190/375/GM 5

Morning All
Well you all made me sooo inspired that the kids & i baked some small cakes, i do admit that it was one of those postman pat packet mixesbut it was in the cupboard and needed using up
I did go to the shops though and spent £6.56 on some flour, bicarb and syrup so i am going to have a go at something else today and my ex OH is coming round to teach me how to cook a roast dinner (very very embarrased)
I also got a great deal on some tins of tuna spending 2.52 down from 4.52 and there's enough there to last us all month in sandwiches and the kids love tuna pasta ....nice and easy for me
MrsM i love that table & chairs that would go perfect in my gardenwish i could get one of those :rotfl:
Keep motivated everybody :AMay GC £350/ spent so far

Not a good couple of weeks but could be worse. Still no real planning of meals or shopping lists. Although did give a list to OH yesterday and he was good and stuck to it. He only wanted a couple of things but my list came to £18 lol! Saves me going today and spending a fortune.
Dubgirl recommended a shop that sells Meat and other bits to trade and public. Its an hours drive for us but love the prices and food so went again yesterday to stock up. Spent £30 on loads really tempted to get another frezzer to make it more economical on diesel. Need to hunt one on freecycle me thinks.
It just off junction 12 of the M1 if anyones near. PM me for more info.
Total spent £101 looks a bit scary but with a freezer full of meat it should be doable.
Hope everyone else doing well I havent read any of the 26 pages yet!!:j0 -
Morning All....fingers X it'll be a NSD for me, unless I see something on the Vouchers thread for today's papers;)
Obviously tis the season for bbq, but do you folk buy ready-to-cook stuff, ready-made sauce/marinade or make your own? As I've said before, we are very recent converts to some things so I wouldn't have a clue where to start in making my own:o A nephew did say that a Paul Newman bbq thingy was good, but it's a bit  price-wise if I'm the only one who'll eat it.
Another thing---what IS pesto? If I made my own [all & any types of recipes gratefully received:p ] would it be suitable for a dip like you get in little jars, to have with tortilla chips?
I'm a pain I know, but now I've a chance to expand my culinary repertoire I wunna use it to the best of my--more importantly, economical--ability. TIA.Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Yellow Monkey good luck with the shopping......that's one thing i never do...i always make sure i go on my own, otherwise i end up with a ton of stuff i didn't want!
Seashell and Scooterwife i can't stress enough how much easier it'll be if you go to the shops armed with a list. it's hard to start off with, but you have to be strong willed!!i split my grocery money into weekly amounts, and at the end of every week if i've got anything left in my purse, i put it in one of those sealed tins you can get in a Poundshop. the feeling of satisfaction when you can feel the tin getting heavier is brilliant! give it a go
IfOnlyItWasEasier awww!! i'm dead jealous!! i love the indiana films, but i'm gonna wait till i can get it on DVD off somebody. hope you both have a brilliant time, and don't go giving any of the plot away on here when you get back
Well, i WAS planning on going to my gran's to tidy her garden up for her, but it's absolutely chucking it down, with no signs of stopping  i hate this weather, it makes me so depressed and i can't be bothered to do anything!
mind you, i've got my rolls proving at the mo, but that's only cos we won't have anything for lunch if i didn't do them! hope everyone enjoys their day, and doesn't have to spend much0 -

You can also have varations, rocket pesto (rocket and not basil), red pesto (tomatoes) and also some other green things too (parsley maybe ?). I personally think it might be a bit too oily to dip tortillas in but this might not be everyones opinion!
How about a nice salsa or spring onion/cream cheese dip for putting tortillas in ? One that note any nice peoples got a lovely salsa recipe ?
