I had anticipated that if we'd continued as we were..by the end of the year the GC savings could have paid for 1 of us.
I don't know whether to think with my head or heart about this...
What would you do?
Sorry guys about this being off topic
SFT
SFT,if you don't do it now when will you?
Do things whilst you are healthy!!Be awful to keep thinking, what if or if only.

SFT - GO FOR IT!
As everyone else has said, you only get one go at this life, and you should NEVER give up on your dreams! God, if I didn't dream about stuff I'd be a wreck on the floor muttering to myself. I'd hate to think this is my lot in life.
It may take longer, but still save for it, then at least when OB does get what he wants, you'll have more towards it - just put the date back, not off!
I'm a great believer in things happening for a reason, karma, etc, and you have to believe that there is something better around the corner. GO FOR IT GIRL and keep your siggy and photos to remind you of what you want. You give so much encouragement to others on here, so start giving yourself some too, you deserve it.:A

Hi SFT. Im another one saying do not change your name or dreams. We had the 'once in a lifetime' holiday to Orlando about 10 years ago and loved it so much we have been back several times. I never thought we would be able to but you can. We find that having a seperate holiday account means we can manage our usual finances but also focus on our holiday savings. (I keep it in my signature). We have been saving for 2 and a bit years setting up a direct debit for the holday fund supplemented by a couple of boot sales, ebay, amazon, £2 savings and that has paid for our cruise next Januray. So have a think about what you can do, no matter how small, above and beyond your usual money management and sit back and watch it grow. As it grows you will get a little nearer to your toucans, might take a year might take 3 but you know what, you will get there.
EDITTED to say that I do the Olympic challenge to drive some funds towards my holiday fund, I try and use coupons and vouchers to drive bills down and will use those boots, smiths points for chrimbo prezzies where I can. It all saves cash that you can save instead!!Boots Card - £17.53, Nectar Points - £15.06 - *Saving for Chrimbo*2015 Savings Fund - £2575.000 -
Woohoo! £50.09/£150 on this months main shop !!! leaving me with £99.91 to get through the month - think we will manage this easy, going to have to reduce next months by a fair bit me thinks.

Wow you are all so fantastic and give such sensible advice too...
OB and I had a good chat last night and he is quite determined that we will get to Central America....maybe just not in 2009...
The GC savings is money tht we happily gave to Mr T, Mr S etc.. before we started this challenge so we'll continue to save that and so we should have enough for 1 of us by the end of the year (OB said I could go without him-not a bl**dy chance, this is our dream). So logic suggests we might have enough for 2010??
We are so careful with money in every other area that it would be our one big spend.. so fingers crossed, chin up and sorry for anyone who thinks I'm being a bit silly (because I know its a dream, and lots others are facing up to much harder issues in life).
So with your permission I'll put the toucan back on the fridge and alter my sig (just won't put date).
Dink 1-Thinking of you too and Dink 1 OH. Keep us up to date..

OB didn't get the job so the CA adventure is off!!
Feel upset but I know its not that important in the grand scheme of things. Have to take the R.B Toucan off the fridge.
Went on (another) whoopsie hunt to cheer me up... didn't work but I did get some bargains. Will update my sig accordingly. Not sure how to change my name..
SF.....?????????
Hi SFT
Please don't change your name, travel is your dream so keep dreaming and working to make it real. Your start date has been delayed, not cancelled. Your savings may have to be diverted for a while but that's OK. Change is always happening and it is not all bad. Here's wishing you both good luck and something new and exciting will soon appear on your horizon.WL 11 st 5lb as at 050109. 160209 11st 2lb

SFT-glad that you have decided to continue with you savings and the Toucan can stay. I personally think it is a great idea. Encourages you to spend less while do groceries and there is a reason for it. I am sure that one day you will get there. How adorable of your other half to say you could o on your own although agree with you about it being a dream for the both of you.
No you are not being silly you are saving to be ale to live you dream :j
Go for it.
Anyway to stay on topic plan on being organised this mont and do a couple of Mr T shops with a points code and also do a couple of in store shops in hope I can find some whoopsiesJanuary Grocery 11/3740 -
Morning all- trying to catch up with the thread- was a busy day yesterday and too much rain to plant my bedding plants but still no free time!
SFT-- am pleased you have decided to carry on with the CA plan- don't give up- these things have a way of sorting themselves out and another job may be right round the corner (and even better)- its just not easy some days is it?
Had to get a new kettle yesterday so that has added to the shopping total for this week but now only veggies and a little bit of fruit required and so a trip to the market today-- then some NSD's!!
Does anyone know if you can freeze celery (sorry I think that this may have been asked?? Would use it for soup) and anyone any other ideas for using it up?
Hope that today brings wonderful things to everyone- will try to keep up today!June Budget= £151.41/£150:cool:10 NSDs (with teenagers !!)= 8Reduced my overdraft a little today- slow but sure!:A0 -

you have to think of your family first! my hubby is a milkman and I have to admit things are looking bad for them when supermarkets are much cheaper and everyone is skint but even I get most of mine from tesco or our local cheap veggie shop although we do get a bit free as a perk of the job.Do what you love :happyhear0
