I'm sure there must be inflation coming. I think we have already begun seeing rises in production costs in the UK and elsewhere. However, I think that because the pound is high relative to the $ this is having a cusioning effect. I'm sure someone will be along to tell me if I'm wrong.;)

The Pound being high relative to the Dollar (it has already slumped against most of the major currencies) is just about the only thing keeping any sort of a lid on prices, thanks to the Dollar being the currency for oil trading and the Chinese and Far Eastern countries tending to try to peg to the Dollar.

It's also the main thing keeping us from more interest rate cuts. The BoE and Govt. know full well that a weaker pound is going to be extremely inflationary and given that the UK now imports so much more than it exports there is little scope to do a 70s-style devaluation/inflation.

They'll try to inflate as much as they can get away with but they are playing a dangerous game. The pressure will be on to cap pay rises as once the salaries handbrake comes off of consumer price inflation things will get very hairy for not only the the economy but most especially, them.

Every pound less borrowed (to buy a house) is more than two pounds less to repay and more than three pounds less to earn, over the course of a typical mortgage.

Just has a quick look at the wacko the end is nigh site and it makes.. interesting reading.

"Well, I am no expert in this, but it appears to me that the basement is surrounded on all sides by concrete, except for the two small windows I mentioned. The steel door would help block off the only way in.

The top of the basement is made out of wood though. I could probably take some sort of saw or sledgehammer and go to town on my living room floor, and put a hole in the ceiling of the basement. Our best bet would be to hope no one relizes we have a basement hiding behind that bookshelf.

As far as gun and ammos is concerned, we have about 500-700 rounds for each of our handguns. we each have a 40 cal glock [22, 23] they can use same clips. And hubby also has a back up. I ''think'' its a ''9'' ???? Sorry, I am no gun expert, but I can shoot them all, and have pretty good aim on still targets. Other then hunting when I was younger, not much experiance on moving targets though. Hubby is a police officer, and does have some skills when it comes to that.
We have a 12 gauge pump, and probably about 150 rounds for that, we have a little 22 with maybe 50 rounds, and hubby has some sort of machine gun type thing I have never fired. Looks like what the military uses.
I have a little 38 special , but we have no extra ammo for that yet. And if shtf, I don't think I would want a revolver anyway.... but hey, at least they don't jam.

The problem with the guns would be if we were in the basement, we would not have a view of what was going on outside, and we would not be able to get a shot off untill they breached the basement."!

lol. So just the 4 handguns, a shotgun and a backup machine gun then. And there was me thinking a few grugerands would suffice. :)

Absolute worldclass. Notice they don't seem to stockpile stuff like food, fuel, batteries... Just guns.

How tedious. You've completely missed my point. I'm not saying that including the issue of 'global warming' isn't relevant because its a housing based forum and we shouldn't digress.

You may be blinkered enough to think that global warming is not occurring bt I am entitled to disagree (along with most of the world).

This ignorance is worrying. The concept of "global warming" has widely been discredited and dropped. Therefore it has no place in this discussion. Even Tabloid McDonald and the Daily hate Mail have dropped the term from their chicken licken vocabularies.

We may indeed be facing a period of climate change. The extent of mans' contribution to this is an inconclusive argument and the only fact is that neither you nor I can prove it either way.

Thats why I balk when terms like 'global warming' are flippantly dropped into such a debate.

Let everyone else stockpile that stuff, you just need the guns to get it ;)

    1) Good point :rotfl:
    2) Not all of them are batshiz insane NRA nutsos - Some live in hurricane country for example and stockpile food and medical supplies etc in case of emergencies. Some hold weapons as 'insurance' for when people inevitably start looting and robbing... Of course, some of them are simply nutjobs ;)
