they definitely work. I got mine off accessdiagnostics.com, free delivery, 10 for about £4.60, so good value if you are trying and testing every month.
They aren't fancy, you have to wee ina cup and then dip the test in rather than weeing on the stick and putting a nice little cover on it etc, and had to wait a little bit longer maybe 5 mins as opposed to 2, but it worked just as well.
Good luck hope you get the result you want when you come to test.

The actual test part of a pregnancy test is a little bit of paper that detects and reacts to HCG (think about that litnus paper or whatever it was that went different colours at school!). It costs about 10p to manufacture! The rest of the price you're paying is for fancy outer casing, packaging and brand name.

A £1.50 test is usually more accurate than a £7 one in my experience. I have no proof of course but I do suspect they deliberately use a lower level of HCG detection in more expensive tests so you need to use a few...

You can get 10 test strips without any fancy casing or packaging off ebay for about £3 and yep, they really are the same ones GPs use.

i've just done a pregnancy test, it said to wait for 5 mins to read, however after about 3 mins a vivid pink line showed to say i wasnt pregnant. ileft it at that. however i've just had another look (about 1 hr later!!) and it now has 2 pink lines (to say its positive) is that just because i left it too long to read?

    pls help!

I would suggest getting another test - especially if you have any pregnancy symptoms, or a missed period. If only to put your mind at rest.

Hey Boltonangel, have a look at the instructions, most tests tell you to ignore the result window after about 20 mins or so. Just make sure. If you still havn't come on your period by say Monday, get another test.

    thanks!

i did a test last wk, which was negative, but i still haven't come on my period so thought i'd do another.

i've no real symptoms of pregnancy, other than being tired - but that's prob laziness! last time i had loads of morning sickness, but none @ the mo. is heart burn a symptom of early pregnancy cos ikeep getting that.

i was also thinking that my period could be late cos i only came off the pill last month (well 6 wks ago)

Its probably an evaporation line, but it does depend on the test. Some say to discard any which haven't been read within a very short window of opportunity and other makes say that the result will last for 24 hours. If you've still got the instructions check them (or google the brand to see if you can find out). Otherwise, it must be worth a retest just to put your mind at ease (and this time, don't read it until the correct time has elapsed!)

Good luck - hope you get the result you want, whatever that is.
