Business cards - Vista Print: a false economy?

  • I'm puzzled. (yep it doesn't take much...) What exactly is the problem with the size? I have two business card holders, one bought from Vistaprint and one from the UK and both fit the cards just fine? In any case how many people actually want to 'store' such cards?
I agree tho that 200 of a thicker quality would be as good as I never get through the 250 before I'm bored and want to redesign them. Little things....

  • VistaPrint... my final comments!

Just received the 'free' re-order... doh! It's still wrong... now a second time!

Having queried the first order and explained the 'printing error' compared with what I'd actually ordered (I'd spent a lot of time customising the design, checking alignments and spacing).

The girl on the phone looked at the design - my final design ‘locked’ - she shouldn't have seen anything wrong, but moved a text box anyway. I was asked to go online to check the revised design before I 're-ordered'. I did so, the design was acceptable. Called back (AN Other) and OK'd the free re-order.

Shock-horror, the rogue text box (The company name, no less!) was not where it was supposed to be. Checked online; what was printed matched the 'artwork' on my account, but not the artwork I had checked and OK'd - i.e., it had been changed after my call back! (Have print screen shots to prove it!) So for a second time the cards were not what I expected!

What is most annoying - apart from wasting the £25, time, etc., is that people dealing in design should know when something is not 'right', in this case that the company name and (accompanying) strapline had become noticeably detached.

Anyway, folks, all in all, personally I can't say I recommend VistaPrint... print accuracy, stock quality and the non-UK standard size... add to that below average communication/problem solving skills, it all leaves a lot to be desired!

Time to give up, put it down to experience... over and out!

i have used vistaprint and they r ok, maybe not for a 'posh' business i admit!! im a student and ptime nail technician, simply put my cards up in shops etc so size doesnt matter. i have given them out to lots of people, no complaints or neg comments
i got the appointment thing on the back and that does look cheap but for what i paid i aint bothered!!
the bad thing is the junk mail i cant even filter it out!!

My first online business cards came from Goodprint, I then tried the free ones from VistaPrint but the quality was poor in comparison. The VistaPrint cards were smaller, flimsy and badly cut. They had a coloured border down one side but weren't cut straight so you could see some white at the edge. I couldn't use them but as they were free I didn't complain. I re-ordered from Goodprint, they are about twice the thickness (400gsm) of VistaPrint's with a nice smooth finish and they come in a plastic box to keep them in good condition, I would certainly recommend them.

I used the guys at Volume Printing for a quick initial 'emergency' run of business cards. Service was superb and very quick. They do an introductory startup pack for around the £99 mark which includes business cards, letterheads and comps slips. They will also do the design (although we did our own).

100 business cards cost us circa £23. The quality is great - laminated card, so they are nice and durable.

Speak to a guy called Jez. Can't fault the service or the prices. They really pulled out the stops for me and turned the order around in 2 days! Heartily recommend them!
  • If anyone is tempted to try Vista Print a couple of hints to help you save money. Apart from going the free ones (+p and p) the nicer ones are the ones at £12.99. However if you start to set one up and type in your company details - close the window down (best having vistaprint open in seperate window). You get a flash message saying dont go - come back and we'll knock 20% off the price. I registered with my email and completed the card and left in checkout basket without paying. Got email next day saying because I had something in checkout the price would be slashed from 12.99 to 3.49 if I completed now. But I didnt - then today get an email offering me 6 items free of charge - just pay for postage - was 250 glossy business cards and return labels and magnets etc. Postage worked out about 5.60 for 250 business cards, 25 magnets and 140 return labels, for the money its worth it

A note about vistaprint, they spam your email address even if you havent bought from them and this is illigal in the UK as they are using your detials and this is against data protection act. Also you will find they sell on your email address after you unsubscribe. I know this as I used a brand new email address. vistaprint@mydomain.com. Stay right away.

O and for people that want to know who I used because a few have pm'ed me.

But again I think your image or that of your company is reflected by what you give your customers and if it’s a crap card. I know what I do with any one who gives me one with vista print on the back, or home made ones is file them, (in the bin) because if they aren't bothered with the image the send out, what is the quality of their product.

Just my two pennith, but I firmly believe quality counts.

But there again there is very little i buy for my company on purley price( it is important but not the be all and end all)

as they say you get what you pay for

    Regards

Have followed this thread with great interest

I have to say that i totally agree with most of the comments, particulary the comment that your business card sells you and not only represents you,but also your company......order or use shody material and that is how you are thought of in business!

    Harsh...but very very true

why not try pvc business cards as an option? they look the part and best of all do not get thrown away!

    Regards

    Pete
