I also don't understand all the secrecy around how much you earn. However I think that some employers depend on it. I have been in the situation where my employer has said "keep this rise secret as it's more than most" I took no notice and discussed with collegues only to find my rise was lower than most (Some of us are just not very good negotiators).
Far better to be open with salaries and have pay scales. If you need to improve the knowledge level of staff introduce skill tests and give pay increases on a pass, or introduce productivity bonuses.
Anyway, I just scrape into band "I". My negotiating skills are gradually improving :-)0 -

I earn just under £4k a year, I work part time in a pub. Don't work full time as am now a full time student.
I used to work in local government as well as at the pub so wages were a bit higher. Only got paid £15,001 a year in local govt job though.Official DFW Nerd no. 082! :cool:Debt @ 01/01/2014 £16,956 Debt now: £0.00 :j

I'd be interested to see how this compares with the government figures for average earnings.
Is it safe to assume the government figures include all of the part time workers, thus dragging the average down.., to keep the majority of us "content?" There must be millions of part-time mums and semi-retired folk out there!

from my personal experience the average full time wage where i live is def under £20k...........We cannot change anything unless we accept it. Condemnation does not liberate, it oppresses. Carl Jung

I'm in band D, in no debt, have a wonderful life and happy as larry the lamb. My sister is in band J/K, often sad and up to her eyeballs in credit card debt. Just goes to show that money doesn't buy happiness.
mind you, i do dream of a nice house with a garden to grow all my own veg but that is only a dream on my income!!
what jobs pay l/m/n i wonder...........;)0 -
I voted. I am band F myself with a basic PAYE salary of just over 24k. OH is a band E earning basic for about 15.5k but he has unlimited overtime so realistically he could be up into the G ratings by the time his p60 arrives next year depending on the weather. We also have a small familly business that gives us around 3k a year extra income on average.
All in all we are not skint but not well off either. A little under 20k of debt that is managable but I would rather didn't exist.
To be honest I am actually disgusted with myself for being as loose with ur hard earned cash to run up the debt in the first place.MF aim 10th December 2020 :j:eek:MFW 2012 no86 OP 0/20000
