HELP! Three (3) Text messages massively delayed!?

Hi all,
Had this problem for about 8 months now. Whenever somebody sends me a text that is longer than one message I will not receive the message for anywhere between 4 and 24 hours!

Tried turning the phone off and on after I know it has been sent on the senders side, and tried calling out / sending SMS to myself in the hope it will 'push' the message through to me, but to no joy.

It's massively irritating me now. Phoned 3 quite a few times now and all they've got is somebody to call me back and say 'oh yeah, it must be the recipients side'. It clearly isnt because it's whenever anybody texts me with something longer than one message...no matter what network they are on.
Does anybody have any ideas of how I can get a solution out of this problem - are there grounds for me to be able to cancel the contract based on the service not being correctly provided? Or is there anything else I can do because each time I phone 3 it's like banging my head against a brick wall :wall:

I appreciate any help you can give me, and look forward to any solutions!

I have the same problem, I got one and it made no sense then i figured it was because i had only got the 2nd part of the text. It happened again and in both cases i only got the original message (both parts) when my friend sent the whole thing again, that seems to make the original and the new one appear so i get it twice....its very annoying! I thought it was just mine but now I know its not i might go and hassle them a bit as well.
  • I'm on the phone to them AGAIN at the minute.
    Useless bunch!
"You should do a settings reset on the phone"
NO! I've used three different handsets so it's pretty obvious that it's not a handset related problem and i've told them that, but they won't listen and are so persistent I do a settings reset and they phone me back tomorrow to see if that has worked!!
Is there anybody here that knows if there is a way I can cancel my contract based on the service offered not being fully provided? Because it's annoying me now!

  • It sometimes takes me days to receive a text from the sender to my 3 phone.
  • It's every single time somebody sends me a text longer than one message in length. Isn't this against something in their T&C's?

I had a similar problem on Orange a few years back.

    What handsets are you using?

What is your signal like?/What sort of location are you in? (Big city, little city, middle of nowhere?)/Do you have good local 3G coverage?

sony ericsson, not sure what one, middle of nowhere but signal is strong and though not 3g all the time the signal is always good. Its only when its more than one page and it arrives when they send me it again (so i end up with it double) so it seems to get stuck somewhere along the line. My mates should not have to spend double just to get it to me though
  • I've tried a Sony Ericsson K800i, Nokia 6630, Nokia E65 and they all have the same problem.
I've had the same problem both where I live (about a mile from a small town, but I do get good 3G signal) and in quite big towns and cities etc. Basically everywhere I go and with whatever phone I use!
As with s12s, it's only when the message is longer than 1 SMS long!

The problem I had came down to improper reception - the phone received the first part of the message but the tower didn't get confirmation and tried again later (so I would get one and a half messages, but the sender wasn't charged). The problem was that it would not automatically resend the message until something happened on my account, so I had to do something like ring to check my balance before it would work.

With 3G phones (like those provided by 3) they tend to aim to connect to 3G towers even if their signal is weaker than another non-3G tower. I therefore thought this might be the issue, but from your description of good signal, it doesn't sound like it is.

Mark, have you thought about reading their t&cs?
