Think it depends what area your from, but I was told that they charge you about £40 for your first session, in that session they discuss money and you what you can afford and you both come to an agreement on that.

Course, I never took the offer up so could be talking out of my rear.

If money is an issue though, there are places, you just have to look very hard for them that offer free counselling - but that depends on age too, dont know why but it does.

You could always ring to check - Good Luck and hope you get whatever closure you may require x

£45 a session here but they will try and reduce it if you cannot afford to pay.

You are likely to get a better reduction of you can go during the day though, as evenings are more in demand.

The Dr won't refer me for this. Can't do the day we both work full-time. Can't do £40/45. Would independants charge less?

What do you mean. You shoud really give them a ring, if you have financial woes then you can discuss that with them over the phone and come to some sort of agreement.

I have heard of a Marriage Counsellor taking only what you can afford in payment. I was sure it was Relate, I think a while ago someone mentioned that they took a donation?

  • in my area (essex) worked on a sliding scale according to earnings. started at £30 per seesion and went up to £55. but was always asked each week if the fee foe that week was o,k for us and they were reall understanding about money issues.you can discuss this on the phone prior to appointment
  • Hi

I'm in west mids, we paid £40 for initial session and £30 thereafter. However on our last session (typical), they said if we were having problems, we could pay a reduced charge.

If you feel you need it, i would recommend it. In our case, we went for only 6 sessions and it really helped.

Thanks, we're near the west mids. I'm not sure OH will come with me at the mo - they do see people on their own don't they? I just can't afford that sort of thing on my own even though OH could. I guess I could ask him for extra food shopping money!
