This seems to stem from the fact that newer peeps (joining within the last year) assume the 'comps ending' lists have always been a part of the forum, not just something recent - that started accidently.

*This* being the - 'where are comps ending'/'when are they being posted' etc ;)

I like the idea of taking an 'ending lists' holiday for a while. That will give all compers, new & old, the chance to experience life how it used to be before they were used.
    Comping is fun people!
Thank you to everyone who posts comps! :A
    I would like to be lucky,healthy & happy in 2020! :T

Josie, I honestly still don't understand what the problem is!!!! Does everyone else understand??

that the newbies rely largely solely on the lists yet contribute nothing to the forum. be it posting comps, or volunteering to do a list themselves
  • I personally think it best to give it a break & see if the atmosphere improves a little. What have the BG's said about this?

I am not going to enter into an argument and I know pretty well how to enter competitions wherever they are, if I like. But to be honest with you, first, I have recentlyseen many new memebers compiling competitions. In addition, these roles are always 'fully booked' by the old timers.
Second, I don't know what defines a new memeber (an I dont expect answers), but I can have 5 stars overnight just by posting smilies and personal messages that are irrelated to this forum, does this make me more entitled on these forums?
Anyway, again I am not looking for answers and this whole thing does not affect me (I have a postgraduate degree in online moderating and know how to depend on myself)...but it does make me wonder, why make things more difficult for everyone? It is supposed to be a 'community', that is 'sharing', not another job.

If new memebers remained inactive/invisible 'visitors' (just reading and entering competitions and not making themselves announced) would the BG still see them as obliged to contribute!

All I am saying is new members do need the time to feel comfortable using these forums, give it to them, that's all.
  • With the forums being closed all day tomorrow does anyone know if we're getting comps ending 31st today?

Thanks to all the comping fairies for all the hard work and effort!!! xxx

sorry- just opened my eyes and read other posts so i know we're gettin them today! der!!!

if you are talking about the roles of compiling the lists, then when i used to make the volunteers list it would be a few weeks before it was complete, which gives EVERYONE a fair chance to volunteer to do it.

the problem is as many people have said, the lists have made it very easy and lazy to comp on here and it is often the newbies who will use them rather than take the time to get to know the forums and how to do the comps by end date for themselves.
As someone who has spent many many hours compiling the lists and volunteers list, I got fed up with the time it was taking me to do along with the general lack of appreciation and lack of listening to how to compile the lists for the benefit of everone else which is what led me to stop doing it.

as for what constitutes being a non-newbie, personally i would say someone who contricutes to the forum, whether it be posting comps or getting to know people in the inn, ather than someone who logs in once a day to use the comps ending list.
  • I would say i'm a "newbie" but i chat in the compers inn, have introduced myself, always take time to engage in chatter, regularly use the thanks button and i have posted answers to competitions when help was needed. I've also tried to post about 10 comps but on doing a search it's already been posted. :p
Just wanted to say we're not all bad!! :o:o
Thankyou so much to all people that post comps etc. it's really appreciated- i know i regularly use comp ending lists and am really grateful for them!
    KEEP SMILING EVERYBODY!!!!!!! :j :D;):p :T :A :money:
