Competitions Discussion Thread Part 6

Since reading everyone's opinions in this thread I've changed my mind a little about the whole subject - to begin with I was all for the lists staying, but one point in particular has stayed with me (sorry, I can't remember who said it)... most of the people who want the comps ending list to stay cite not having enough time to look through the comps themselves as an excuse, but they think it's perfectly fair for someone to take time out of THEIR comping to compile the list, sometimes with little recognition. A lot of the people that compile the lists have children of their own/work commitments/ill family members/personal ill health, yet offer up a huge amount of their own time for these people that use the lists as a quick fix.

I just wanted to highlight that point again because I thought it was really interesting...

So only people who post in the discussions threads and are well known to other compers on here are allowed to win competitions?

It strikes me that the people who were around before the lists and see themselves as 'oldskool' don't like the fact that more and more people are getting into competitions and obviously reducing their chances of winning.

At the end of the day, people who don't want to compile the lists don't have to, no one forces them, if they don't like the 'abuse' they get, then they should just stop. As I have found the lists helpful, I wanted to give something back and was going to offer my services to compile but I am always greeted with the message that there are enough people to do it for the next X amount of months so its not for want of trying on some peoples behalves. This shows that there are people out there who WANT to do it, and I think as long as that is the case then the lists should continue and people should stop being 'spiteful' to the 'lurkers' who don't have time to join in with virtual drinking sessions in the compers inn!

I think its great that people are willing to give up their time to help others, but please do remember they are doing it because they want to, and not because they have to.

Quite aside of anything else that's been said, I have taken time out to speak to new people on the forum many times, welcoming them onto the board, thanking them for posting comps, urging them to not get down-hearted if they post a dupe, etc - so just cos we have conversations/banter in the Compers doesn't mean that it is somehow an 'exclusive' club & we don't speak to anyone new on the board.

Anyway, back to happy happy joy joy!

Thats slightly unfair, I am probably one of the oldest "oldskool" here, yes I am anti the lists, there are reasons why I don't agree with it being a comper and BG alike, but there may well be some oldskool who do use the list and are not being drawn into the discussion.

Did you use the board before the lists were a permanent feature?

Almost caught up with the lot now again after me hols.... i feel I have acheived a lot this morning the 2 dumps outweighed the comps by far though
