I recently put bt broadband onto a new Dell pc. The Dell had the 3-month license for Norton.
Bt installed fine but Norton says it itself needs to be reinstalled now - every time the pc is switched on.
Bye bye Norton.
 RANT : It's always been a nuscience. It's always tried to take over your computer and it's always ground pcs down almost to a standstill.
Goes into my list with BT Yahoo & Aol. the NEVER, NEVER EVER list..

I'm unimpressed by Norton too. It completely missed the msblaster virus a few years ago - to sort my PC out I had to download a fix via my work PC and take it home on a CD. Ludicrous for what it costs.0

I bought Norton's chunter, but I doubt I would again. Slows this pc down too.
But on a plus side, it ran out a few weeks ago and although it reminds me every few days that it needs renewing, it still scans for bugs and things

Sofa, i think you need to get a new anti virus program. Although Norton has run out and still scans (as it should do) the scans will be done using old virus definitions, so any new viruses which are discovered wont be scanned for by your current software!! So you should get yourself either a free scanner off the net or get your norton updated.
I personally use the free Avast anti virus scanner. AVG is also good and now backed by Intel.

Thanks bigup. I'll give Avast a whirl
, but I'd better sort some programmes out first. I've downloaded a couple of free ones, (and paid for another but "lost it" somehow
).
But thanks for reminding me about new viruses - I'd never given those a thought!0 -
What does the message say exactly? I found that if you delete it from the "all programs" section on the start menu will cause it to say that it needs to be re installed. Have you deleted it too?0

I used to use Norton too. It is big and doesn't do anything different to other programmes.
It never uninstalls well either!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Quick Grabbit, Freebies, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning and the UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.

Not forgetting to delete it from startup if its in there.
Start, Run, (type) msconifg, go to the Startup Tab, and take the tick out
of the rquired program, then just follow the instruction after that
eh Voila wont start up again.0 -

Bit like AOL as chunter said then?

I still have a Norton 2004 disk sitting in a drawer. Got it free with something I bought and thought I would keep it in reserve in case something got on my computer and free programs wouldn't remove it.
But never had any problems over the last year and even if I did, don't think I'd risk putting Norton on.
Shows you what experiences I've had of Norton in the past - that I feel it's easier to remove a virus
(viruses probably take up less resources :rotfl:) 0 -
Id think id rather have the Virus
