Blocked up nose

I constantly suffer from nasal passages being blocked up.
I've started using Sudafed, though I don't think its meant as a long term solution.
I just wondered if there was something better to use.

Hi
I asked my pharmacist what I could use for blocked nose/sinuses without having to see my GP and she got me the Boots Hayfever Relief Nasal Spray. Apparently we've not to be put off by the term Hayfever, because it works on general blockages. Costs about £3.29 ish. Contains Beclomethasone Dipropionate, if you're interested. Can be used longer term, said just to see GP if I felt I needed it after 3 months, but would be OK. Can only be used by over 18's.
Also, if you use this one, you get the Boots points ;D

Go and see your GP if the problem is persistent. There seems to be an underlying cause and he may well send you to the specialist.
If you have broken your nose then this can cause restrictions as can a stubborn infection.
Over the counter remedies are for short term use only and as you pointed out, this is a long term problem!
I am sure that you'll be able to cure the problem rather than temporarily relieve it.
Good luckWatch out people. You don't know what lurks around the corner for you![/SIZE]0 -
you could have something like polyps (spelling???) mr divadees friend has this problem and its caused by polyps at the top of his nose.
I would see the gp as freebie hunter advised and check for no underlying cause why this is happening.

Definitely see your GP and ask for ENT referral, in the meantime inhalations are best for stuffy noses and sinus problems,
buy a bottle of menthol & eucolyptus from chemist, add 2 tsps to very hot water in a bowl, lean over and cover head and bowl with large towel, and inhale, leaving a bowl of this in bedroom can help during night,
Olbas oil is also good for relief, it can be sprinkled on bedding,
but do have a check up with GPI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. I would use menthol crystals, available from pharmacist, use very small amt in warm water, put head over bowl, towel over head etc and breath away. hope this helps

aargh. definitely go and see your GP but don't ask for an ENT referral... you may not need one. lots of people suffer from this problem and quite often a steroid spray is prescribed, which tends to be slightly more effective than an antihistamine spray. olbas oil/ menthol crystals as suggested are also good.
a small percentage of people also do have nasal polyps (especially if you're asthmatic), and some GP surgeries have specialist GPs who can investigate and possibly take care of these for you.:A0 -
First point of call should be as others have said GP.
I use olbas oil on my pillow at night and it makes a big difference to how well I sleep.

if he does not need a referral then GP will tell him so,
steroid sprays are not recomended long term,
menthol & euclyptus are what we use in the ENT dept
not sure I would like a GP doing a nasal polypectomy, for one thing it requires a general anaesthetic to ensure there are no underlying causes,
I don't think anyone should be advising someone NOT to seek a second opinion without knowing ALL the facts,
even as an ENT specialist nurse I'm wary of giving out advice unless I'm sure of what I am sayingI am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards.
