  • I doubt that argument would stand up very well

Its ok My lord that I commited the equivalent of theft/fraud because he didnt look properly!!

You presented that car with road tax, unless you stated and he agreed the road tax would be surrendered by you, then he has every right to ask for the tax disc back

Your actions also weaken you when negotiating with him re repair costs

Buy a can of tyre weld.

Tyre weld isn't much use if you have a delamination of the tyre wall. You need a proper spare.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.

I bought a car two days ago and today realised that the front wipers dont work. It turns out that its a major part that needs replacing but the garage is now complaining that its costing him more than he made on the deal in the first place.

Then I got home and realised there is no spare tyre either!

The car i gave him as part ex - i removed the tax disc and sent it off to claim a refund (there was no tax on the one I bought) but he now wants to tax disc back. There was no discussion before the sale about what was and wasnt included - in fact he didnt even look at my car at all.

As far as I can see, the car is not roadworthy without wipers and a spare - is that right?

Does anyone know where I stand with this please?
What did you pay for the car will affect what you should expect from the deal ??

Why didn't YOU check the car on 1st inspection & collection ??

It's your tax disc, unless you agreed it would stay with car.
(the tax disc is not part of the car)

there's no requirement to carry a spare, only requirement is that IF you have one, it must be legal or something like that.

Was this a reputable car garage? if so you might find that you have some sort of statutory warranty, google it to see if you're covered

I disagree, the road fund licence is not part of the vehicle, and unless the dealer specifically mentioned it, there is no requirement to include it.

    Then you are wrong.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Some new cars come without spares. Clio 197 IIRC.

Regarding the issue, I'd ask the garage to fit a £40 stalk from the breakers and hopefully that's end of the issue.
    Happy chappy

    In your opinion.

The road fund licence is not part of a car, it is paid for by the owner and belongs to the owner.

Yes you're quite right it is mostly opinion from all of us but in my view anything that is in/on the car when it is valued, if it adds value which a tax disc does, then it should not be stripped afterwards
