I have it states one weeks notice. No mention of the days being days due at work or days off.
If the contract does not define a week, then go with the regular definition of a week, ie 7 days. You served your notice on them today, so it is next Thursday, unless they can provide an explanation which trumps the regular definition of a week.

They may threaten to with hold pay, so be prepared for a fight. In discussion, stick to the line that what you wrote stands and walk out at the end of your shift next Thursday. Turn up to collect your pay on the normal day if no other arrangements are made.

Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
    To dissolve the people
    And elect another?

I'll query it next week when I'm next on shift. I know I'll get paid if I do the work they want me to however I could do with a couple of days grace before the new job. Thanks to all

I would have thought that a week is just that, if they want it to be seven working days then they should have said so
