Notice Period For Work

I've managed to secure a new job and today gave notice of my resignation to my current employer.

I'm due to give one weeks notice so assumed that my last day will be next Thursday however they have stated that my last day will be next saturday.

I work shifts so who's right?

    You need to look at your contract.

    Every company will have its own terms of employment and the details of notice needed to be given will be in your contract.

    I would kill for a week's notice period. Mine is 3 months!!!

    I have it states one weeks notice. No mention of the days being days due at work or days off.

    For some strange reason I get paid weekly.

    Well, I'd take that to next Thursday the same as you then.

    Mention that it doesn't mention anything other than it being 'one weeks' notice in your contract when you speak to them tomorrow.

    Is that for all employees? Have you worked there a long time?

    I thought my 11 weeks was long laughing-smiley-014.gif

    (1 week for every year of employment up to a maximum of 12 weeks)

    But I dont know anyone who has ever had to work longer than a months notice - they are pretty understanding when someone gets a new job/moves on. :)

    2 years I have worked were I do and yes, it's standard notice period.

    And they do keep you to the 3 months :(

    I am still in a low position, it's not like I have any massive client knowledge, I do know alot about the clients, but that's just through my own nosiness rather than my position!!! :D

    not a lawyer but I always thought you couldn't be held to stay for a period longer than that between your salary payments eg monthly, weekly.

    may be urban myth, but restraint of trade covers a lot of ground.
