  • OH went with tescos/green flag and for there best cover it was only £79!!
Thats includes towing home, or to destination, night in a hotel, car hire, the kitchen sink everything.
Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts
  • Hi, i would not talk you out of cover if it is what you or anyone else reading this thread ultimatly want. Personaly, i have been driving for 14 years, in what i would call a real old banger. A 'Y' reg 1983 Suzuki, kept in good state of repair i may add. It has been replaced now though. As long as well looked after, and regularly maintained, Major breakdown is minimal, especially as service intervals are increasing with newer vehicles.

My thoughts being, that having never had breakdown cover during this time, i have possibly saved near on £1k over the years. This now would easily get me towed off the motorway to a garage, put me up in a hotel for the night, and get a train, or cab home, and still leave me a few quid to cheer me up.

Like all insurance's it is a gamble, but it has paid off for me, leaving me quids in. You have to have faith in your car though.

Do it for Mrs Mac's safety.

It used to be the AA did the person, RAC did the car, as such it seemed sensible to be AA. Don't know if that is still the case.

Green flag used to be quite limited, probably not anymore.

Apparently you should switch, or a leat be a new customer, each year. As with most things.

I prefer the AA,they have always sent an AA man out to me when my car has broken down,I was told they get a bonus for every car they fix at the roadside, when I used the RAC I usually ended up with a local garage being sent out, they didnt seem bothered about getting my car going, thats when I decided to join the AA I have been with them for 9 years, when its time to renew my membership I always phone up to cancel, they always offer me a better deal .

There are much cheaper alternatives which we've been quite happy with - see Martin's article and ongoing discussion! Link here.

I've had nothing but fantastic service from the RAC - always there quickly, put me on priority service when I've broken down pregnant/with baby in the back and the guys have been polite and helpful each time. It's been well worth the money.

    Plus points:
    1) my membership covers me, not my car
    2) I broke down in London on my motorbike (a classic bike which I was workign out how to shift from my parents place in London up to my new house in the peak district). As my address was now the peak district, the RAC took it up there, without me (I stayed in London to drive my car back up) - w00t, free motorcycle delivery service.
    3) I broke down in my car before I was a member, phoned the RAC to check if my boyfriend's cover covered me at all as we share the car, they said as we lived together and he's been a member for so many years, they would tow me home as a goodwill gesture - needless to say, we upgraded our membership to joint and haven't looked back!
    4) My motorbike (the same classic) got nicked over New Year a couple of years ago and dumped a few streets away when they couldn't start it. The police mixed up my address and rather than bringing it back 2 streets, impounded it 30 miles away (very annoyed as it cost me £100 to get it back but the police blamed the DVLA and neither would pay the external company). However, I then had a damaged un-rideable bike 30 miles away. Phoned the RAC before going over there and they said to call them once I was there, they'd send a van to meet me that would bring my bike back home whilst I drove home.
    5) Called them last month out to my car after the brakes failed (nearly sued Fiat over a faulty warrenty recall on them after this one). The RAC man signed his report form sayign the car was legally undrivable due to brake failure due to corrosion in the parts that were meant to have been replaced. He also checked our other car whilst he was there to fix whatever it was that was stopping it from starting (faulty battery). What a star.

Couldn't have had better service - it sounds like I've had lots of problems with vehicles, but this list is from the last 5 years or so LOL.
  • I ran out of petrol in the early hours of the morning after getting stuck in a traffic jam. The 24 hour Tesco's was broken and I managed to hobble to my friends house 150 miles from my house with work at 9am the next morning.

The AA were great, they had a truck to the house within an hour to carry my car about looking for an open petrol station at 2am on a Sunday/Monday night!!!

AA have never disappointed me or laughed at me for silly things (lets just say automatics don't work if you miss the "gear" by even a couple of mm's), I would highly recommend them!!
