  • Just taken it out of the oven to cool in the tin for 30 mins. It smells delicious though I say it myself! :D I'm inspired to make a pud now!
  • I thought about doing a pud but a) there's only really me that eats it, and b) out of all the cookware I've got I don't have a proper pudding bowl :o

Been meaning to get one for ages but haven't got a round tuit either :D (my gran has though - got a round tuit I mean :rotfl: )

Last year I made a festive ice-cream instead, which was so easy to make and tasted superb. While I think of it I'll post the recipe up shortly :)

She really does only do small tots and it might be fortnightly rather than weekly but it is a moist and delicious cake by the time it rreaches the table :)

I made one of those one year in addition to a pud. Can't remember where I got the recipe from, might have been a Delia or from Good Food Magazine. I'm going to have a rummage around now.

C_Q has posted the recipe in our Old Style Recipe Collection thread - it's called The Recipe Board Thread and should be showing on page one of the forum listing right now.

  • Squeaky, could you post a link please to CQ's recipe. I'm having trouble finding it! (As usual!)

I always use Queen Delia of Cookerland's recipe but substitute sherry for brandy and, as she says, feed it regularly. If you need the recipe, pm me.

I tried this a few years back and ended up having a sleepless night as it never cooked properly and I didn't dare leave it cooking whilst I was in bed! I just stick to Be-Ro's Dundee cake and change the ingredients round as we don't like cherries/mixed peel or nuts. I 'feed' it with brandy same as christmas cake - it turns out great!

Never made a christmas pud tho - perhaps I will this year!

By the way, how does everyone serve the cake? Do you decorate it with icing, serve it as is, or serve with cheese (I think this is a Yorkshire tradition!) I used to have it iced (and my DD's like to do this) but prefer it plain or with cheese. (my taste buds have altered as I've aged :o

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Photogenic I've been Money Tipped!
I cover our cake in apricot jam (thin layer) then smartprice marzipan and the n smartprice royal icing. I let DD decorate it with little figures and put a cake skirt around it. Just like mum and nana, and great-nana etc etc used to make :D

I used to make two cakes, one plain loaf (for ex who didn't like marzipan) and a round one with marzipan and royal icing, fluffed up to look like snow, and the obligatory robin, tree, santa, snowman etc for the kids :D

I have to eat mine with cheese, preferably Wensleydale or Cheshire, which a lot of people find weird but then I am a Yorkie lass ;)
