You can't buy this addon using the phone or online as it is only available through these routes with certain handsets. Just phone them (like I did) and ask to purchase the X-Series Silver addon (cost £5/mo and allows 1GB). It will however stay on your account until you phone again to cancel it (i.e you'll be charged an extra £5 on your monthly bill).
    More info:

Also Three are well aware that people are using their phones as modems and some moderators on Three forums (Three employees) are giving people instructions and guidance on how to use their phones (like their skypephone) as modems to access internet on laptops. They seem to have turned a blind eye to keep themselves ahead of the competition when it comes to the mobile broadband market.

Absolutely. I have been using the x-series for internet access on my handset and also when connected to my laptop during my travels. My usage is however quite moderate and would not reach anywhere near the 1GB limit. Apparently (from looking at other forums) there are ways that they can tell that one is using a PC's browser but this would be cumbersome and time consuming for them and as I mentioned something that they don't appear to be interested in at this stage. If faster internet is important and you have good 3 reception in your area, I would also recommend the pay as you go mobile modem (offers on these come and go frequently -had mine for £30-).

Forgot to mention to those who are interested that one important advantage of purchasing and using something like this above using your mobile as a modem in addition to the faster surfing is that there is no way you'd be hit with a massive bill when exceeding your inclusive data usage limit. As this is PAYG then it will stop working as soon as your credit runs out. Just thought of this when I heard on the news about the woman who was billed £4000+ for watching an episode of the apprentice on her iPhone whilst abroad:eek:

so if i buy the dongle to use with my x-series silver add on for £5 a month, does this mean swapping the sim card between modem and phone ?? this would mean no phone while on the net? another question if i'm using the phone as a modem can i receive calls at the same time ?

d123 is completely correct. The "Mobile Internet" addon is designed for use by the mobile phone, not a computer.

The "Mobile Internet" addon may be intended by 3 to be used when accessing the internet on your mobile, but it does work fine when you use the phone as a modem with a laptop. I know because I occasionally use it that way on their 50p a day access.

All you need to do is use the phone to buy the addon (from the MyThree) bit, and then connect it up to your laptop and use it as a modem.

So my O2 tariff, inc. 200Mb/month for £7 which I can use from the phone's browser or from the laptop using the phone as a modem connected by bluetooth.

Of course, 200Mb goes in no time at all when surfing:mad:

Think phone callswill go to answerphone unless the PC software has the capability to pick up the calls. You Will be able to send receive Texts though.

Oh No. The dongle comes with its own SIM and its own mobile number. Also if you go for this then you won't need the X-Series addon or to use your mobile handset at all. All you'd need is to buy credit for the dongle (on PAYG basis):

I use the PAYG Broadband Lite which costs £10/mo and gives 1GB data usage.
