my sky broadband expired today, so i was left without internet
installed the pc suite that came with my sony k610i and set up a network connection using the 3g service, pretty straightforward. first of all it would connect ok but not load any pages... so i moved the pc to the front of the flat (better signal) and its now working.
so when i connect it automatically comes up with a 3 page telling me i'll be charged £2 per mb or i can buy an add on. £5 a month for unlimited (1gb fair usage) or £2.50 for 10mb. i try to buy the £5 add on but the next page appears and the £5 unlimited option disappears and the only option available is £2.50 for 10mb?!?
anyway i'm not sure what to do now. i need broadband but i dont want a contract as i may not be in the same property in a few months time. i'm happy to use the phone as a modem, or buy a 3 usb modem. what would be the best option? pay as you go mobile broadband? i read they were offering the modems for 19.99 before but now they are about £60. anyone know where i could get one cheaper?

why not get broadband with a monthly contract?Utinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0

well i might not be staying here for more than 12 months so didnt want to be tied to a contract0

Would capital letters help? MONTHLY CONTRACT. so tied to...er...30 days, not that long then, most you could lose by leaving early is...er...1 months subscription.
plenty of decent isps do not tie you to 12 months and 1st born contracts, join one of them, newnet for low usage, entanet for high usage would be safe bets, though plan a may have been to keep sky, once out of contract it should have become a rolling 30day i believeUtinam logica falsa tuam philosophiam totam suffodiant.0 -
You could always buy the proper 3G modem from 3, cost you £49.99 and then £10 per month top-up for their mobile broadband service.
The £5 internet add-on is only supposed to be used on your phone, not connected to a PC. That might be why it isn't allowing you to select it when connected to your laptop.====0 -
d123 is completely correct. The "Mobile Internet" addon is designed for use by the mobile phone, not a computer.0

they are now advertising a deal for using your mobile as a modem, buy an add on for £10 and you get 1gb... so it IS designed for pc use, but you need an HSDPA phone..0

And I can tell you 1GB of transfer will not last you a month either, you're probably looking at about two weeks tops of normal webbrowsing without any youtube or content rich pages.0

That's not the same thing as the "Mobile Internet Add On" the OP was on about.0 -

YOU WHAT? I have four people using the internet in my house including long online gaming sessions and me downloading Linux ISOs etc. Four of us hammering the internet rarely touch 5GB. When I was using my "3" Mobile dongle four hours a night five nights a week, I didn't come anywhere near 1GB.0 -
does anyone know the cheapest HSDPA phone ??? this is an option if i get PAYG mobile b/band as it will save buying a usb modem?0
