It's really really sad actually. How anyone can just abandon a defenceless animal and leave it to fend for itself is beyond me. What have they done wrong !!!!!!?:angry::cry:

Animal neglect/cruelty is one thing that really gets my blood boiling.

Blimey, whatever did the poor animals do before humans evolved to look after them? Surely not fend for themselves?

    They went shoplifting to tescos.

Would you ask a rottweiler to open their coat?
Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

While I have a certain symapthy with your view point its also important to understand that domesticated animals have little or no place in most ecosystems now and also that human influence has often made them less suitable for the role their wild ancestors would have filled.

Animal neglect or cruelty is inexcusable. If it seems like you cant afford to maintain your pets then do the honourable thing and take it to the vet for the last time.

Theres something peculiarly sinister about cruelty to defenceless beasts that depend on us for food, shelter and protection. if you are prepared to gratuitously harm such a creature then I seriously think that you have no place in a civilised society.

Yes indeed. Cant see any problems at all with packs of rabid, TB-ridden dogs and hoardes of feral cats roaming around our fields and streets. Dumbass.

if people are skint they should be eating the cats and dogs and not abandon them. Would you eat cow ,lamb, chicken ,turkey or pig ? yes so why not the cat or dog .

In most cases (cats and dogs) they're perfectly capable of looking after themselves. No they don't really have a place in the ecosystem, but they didn't when they were still pets either. Cats and dogs running wild is more of a problem for local wildlife and human society than it is for the animals themselves. The problem is that people keep these pointless animals in the first place, not that they abandon them. Animal sanctuaries just compound the problem, encouraging pet ownership and so the problem continues.

Oops, accidentally recommended your stupid post. No I don't see how that's a problem for the animals. Your sarcasm fails.

Cats roam fairly feral anyway. They just like to have somewhere to go for free food.

To be honest, as an animal lover (and cat lady!) this makes me so mad.

I have four cats (three of our own and one long-term foster for a local cat rescue) and I would not get rid of any of them no matter how hard times got.

I live in rented accommodation so people saying they "Cant take them with them" isn't good enough in my opinion.

You can get by if you need to - are you telling me people would leave their children behind or dump them somewhere if they were hard up?

If you don't want to agree to look after an animal for its whole life and treat it like a member of your family DON'T GET ONE!!

Mech - That is so untrue about cats. They are mostly social animals and need more care than just being tossed out on the street and given food now and then! Our lot are definitely not "near feral" and love human interaction. Cats also need vet care and wont cope well living outside 100% of the time! also, would that not lead to a huge unwanted kitten population.

Bf109 I thanked your post before I realised you were saying to PUT TO SLEEP any animal you don't want anymore!

Sorry for being so opinionated but this is a matter close to my heart! I hate how people say the UK is full of animal lovers but you hear it so often that when the going gets tough, the "love" isn't often so forthcoming.
Proud meowmy of four fuzzy cats :)
