Should I meet cyber friend in RL

I have sort of fallen for a chap I speak to on the net. I have spoken to him on msn and the telephone, for over 6 months. we are both single.
He lives miles away from me and is going abroad next week, for a year.
He wants to meet me before he goes, but i have children and am not having him at my home, so we would have to meet in a pub/hotel.
I want to and I don't, if you know what i mean. He is lovely but nothing is going to come out of this friendship, as he will be away and I am really falling for him and I think this make it worse for me, if we meet and get on in RL.
or I should meet him and if we don't click, at least i will know.
i don't know what to do.
thanks for any help.

What if you meet him and really like him? He's going away for a year so no proper chance of any relationship yet is there.Go for it if you can handle the heart ache:oMen think monogamy is something you make dining tables out of-Kathy Lette;)

Go for it, what have you got to loose?
Just be safe, make sure someone knows where you are going and who he is and maybe take someone with you initially
the only hesitation I would be that he is going away for a year, do you want to meet maybe the man of your dreams and then him leave?0 -

How would you feel if you didnt meet him? Would there be a lot of what ifs??? Could you keep in contact with each other whilst he is away or would it be a meeting hen nothing?
If its a meeting so as not to spend another year not seeing each other then go for it. If its a meeting to finalise the end of a relationship then that depends on how you would cope.
FWIW- i would go, you only get one chance at life0 -
Go for it. As Poe says, as long as you make sure of your own safety, you have nothing to lose. At worst there will be no chemistry, and the bubble will burst. He can stay a cyber friend - probably easier because he will be far away so no awkwardness about meeting again. At best he'll be a cracker, you'll get a foreign holiday when you go to visit him, and the year will soon be over and you'll live happily ever after.
Do nothing and you'll never know....
(But if you do meet him, you have to come back on here and tell us ALL about it!!)

I once met someone who had been great to talk to but he looked like a walrus in real life, and was very obnoxious too:eek: :eek:Do you know how he looks like?People tell lies over the net and phone.Don't fall for him till you decide to meet.Men think monogamy is something you make dining tables out of-Kathy Lette;)

I wouldn't go, if he's going away for a year. But that's just me.0

Well, if I hadn't taken this sort of risk I would still be a lonely widow, living alone, probably still scratching for a living. The man I 'met' on the net might still have been living in a miserable marriage, or more likely, he'd have moved out and be living in a bedsit somewhere.
As it was, we met, that was 10 years ago, 11 come November, and we're 6 years married. We couldn't be happier. Two lonely people....
Make sure you meet in a public place and inform trusted people, good friends or family members, where you plan to be.

no problem with people having met online, it's the fact that he's going away for a year, I would personally just keep it to the occasional email and get on with 'real life' in the meantime.0

I'd go for it - but I'm biased as I met my (now) fiance over the internet and we're very happy.
If you like the "real person" then you can keep in contact whilst he's away, and if you don't, then you won't be left at home for a year with the angst of the "what ifs".0
