Hiya i have just rang child tax credits to let them know my son is starting college in sept, but just been told my money stops end of June as im not entitled as my son is doing an advanced course,
This means from June i will only get my income support (as im on long term sick) and child benefit i wont be able to manage on the money for both of us.
My son has applied for EMA but thats for his tram fair and dinners etc isnt it!!
Is there anything that i can claim or that is......Im in shock as i cant afford to lose £46 a week.
Can anyone give me advice on this
Many thanks
Ange

hes 16...just been on phone again with tax credits they still say no its do with the course name they says its higher education like uni, but its not its further education college and its only equal to a A level grade whats he going to be doing.
I dont know what else to do.0 -
Which course is he doing, and how many hours is it? xGone ... or have I?0

It seems that you get tax credits for full-time education is up to and including 'A' Levels, NVQ level 3 or Scottish Highers.
He might have to talk to the college about hardship funds.

I think the reason being is it is not full time but 15 hours a week.
I think full time is 16 hours + a week.

I have just read your post and the information you have been given is, I believe, incorrect. As long as you are receiving Child Benefit you will still receive CTC. It's the Child Benefit people you need to speak to first. CTC should automatically follow. Has he just completed GCSEs? Or similar - ie a level 2 qualification - at 16 his next step would be either another level 2 or a new level 3 qualification so I am unsure as to where they are getting information from

Have you any more information?0 -
That isn't the problem, full time is classed as twelve hours or more.
What qualification does the course lead to?
If the course is suppose to be the same level as an A level then none of it makes sense.
As you get tax credits up A Levels
If they won't issue tax credits then the son will have to get a job and pay for all is own things.
