neas, I'm only a year older than you and I am making job applications right now too. I am also a graduate with good skills and experience and I am applying to 'basic' jobs, (most of them part time) and I have also had no interview offers. Last time I was doing the round and still a career gal I was told I would be bloody hard to employ until I had kids with five yers afterwards (ie had reproduced and got them to fulltime school age) or menopausal. It can be tough getting a job if you are a woman of reproducing age. Now I'm married and have travelled with DH or work leaving more CV holes its even harder. I have a terribly English surname;), a pretty enviable cv up until marriage
and references so fabulous my mother could have written them (but she didn't) and I've applied for anything and everything including factory shifts and local admin work. Incidently the factory I applied to recruits in the local town hall once a week and it is rumoured is only hiring foreign workers as they work harder and don't bang on about rights
It could be less racism than you imagine. 0 -
i've seen her job applications with "For survery purposes only"... asks if she has children and the age of the children.
I thought this was illegal even for 'survey' purposes? What if you dont fill in the survery your application gets binned? Pretty hard law to police in my opinion.0 -
my partner is polish and im a bit saddened by the racism she gets...shes applied for 20 jobs for a basic admin job in the local area... only 2 replied telling her she hasnt got intereview...
I can re-assure you, that's just life (what a re-assurance :rotfl:)I personally wrote all the interview responses
oh, just read the comment "i wrote the applications to see if her english was the problem... " mmhh I get mine checked for english etc., but never would I get them written by someone else
Good luck with the house sale ANGSDATA...
and if it can please you, I would say yes, 5 is a record!

Still staying OT sorry
, but we have Polish girls at work who are lovely. Two are Polish, one Russian and two Albanian guys in the kitchen. We had a complaint two weeks ago from a lovely customer saying that one of the girls behind the bar had been exceptionally rude to her, turned out it was the only english girl working that night!
I was made redundant from an accounts job in November (no notice, no redundancy pay, no reference - he closed up and went) and after applying for loads of jobs, this restaurant one is the only one I got an interview for. Most basic accounts/admin I never even had a reply from. As lostinrates says, once you have kids they see you in a better light, but then you have gaps in your cv. One accounts job local to my DD's school (minimum wage but hours were perfect, 9.15-2.45) had over 300 applicants!0 -
Where I lived there were Polish people 4 doors down.... 24 of them in one house! Damned noisy lot. As they were young, away from home on a year or two trip to the UK to make some fast bucks, they'd spend most of the time when it wasn't raining sitting in the garden, drinking and then all singing loudly. That's 24 of them ... and their friends.
Glad I didn't live closer.
So the issue might not be Polish people, but the number of them/their behaviour as you can't tell just from seeing one ... can you?0 -
I Think the operative word in your post was young i believe that 24 kids of any nationality in a house would be a bit boisterous - not just Polish0
-
Does it mean values of properties close to mine are going to fall because of my nationality? That would be interesting

Being serious, depends who lives in the property is it a family or is it rented share house?0 -
its rented0

Maybe the prospective buyer just wants to live amongst other owner occupiers.0
