I'm surprised you're still hanging on to this. Okay, I'll throw you a bone, let's presume Winzip's security is fantastic, why would you pay for it when you can get dedicated and alternative software for free?

I think espresso was being sarcastic - hence the sarcastic smiley. If you have a look a peter999's posts he is anything but a troll. He's just fighting his corner

WinZip has a 45 day trial, after that I'm not sure if it disables itself, so you may be able to continue to use.

Just asking, to see if anyone thought they were up to the challenge, obviously not.

I assume WinZip encryption is sufficient for most people's needs, rather than 6 years, it might take 1 year to recover a password.

So saying WinZip encryption is weak is pretty pointless, if you spent 1 year recovering a password.

As for paying for the software, considering the rules of this forum I was making the assumption people would be acting legally and pay up after the trial or uninstall.

One of the tools I was looking at supposedly decrypts most of a zip file in less than an hour. So far I've not seen anything that would make me confident about the security of winzip whereas something like truecrypt there's nothing out there that even claims to be able to decrypt it. So although it may be debatable in terms of the veracity of the statement, I'd hardly say there was enough to say the statement is pointless.

go on then give me an 8 letter one using only alphanumeric characters and I'll have a crack (sorry for the pun) at some point today/tomorrow.
