Free file encryption software?

Yes, just wanted to add WinZip for the record.superscaper wrote: »But Truecrypt is free. Rather old thread to bring back though?
AxCrypt looks good as well.
Truecrypt looks interesting but overtop for my needs (single file encryption).
Truecrypt info says:
"It may happen that you are forced by somebody to reveal the password to an encrypted volume. There are many situations where you cannot refuse to reveal the password (for example, due to extortion).
In case an adversary forces you to reveal your password, TrueCrypt provides and supports two kinds of plausible deniability:
1) Hidden volumes (for more information, see the section Hidden Volume).
2) It is impossible to identify a TrueCrypt volume. Until decrypted, a TrueCrypt volume appears to consist of nothing more than random data (it does not contain any kind of "signature"). Therefore, it is impossible to prove that a file, a partition or a device is a TrueCrypt volume or that it has been encrypted."
Good stuff !!

Simply repeating a post doesn't actually constitute rebuttal. Blacksheep1979's point is a valid one. If you're wanting an encryption program you may as well get a good free one. As opposed to paying for a compression program that has poor encryption slapped on as an afterthought."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

I'm not sure the point in bringing back this old thread with something that's already been posted in it."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Not sure, how do you tell a good one from a bad one ??superscaper wrote: »Simply repeating a post doesn't actually constitute rebuttal. Blacksheep1979's point is a valid one. Ps: old threads still have useful information.0 -

Bringing an old thread back is one thing but as I mentioned you brought it back without adding anything new (ie suggesting winzip). If something is really that useful then post a new thread, that way it doesn't confuse readers with possible out of date information."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"
