    Hi All,

Hope today went well fairmorn! Let us know if you can!

A question re chances of getting 0% BT card (ie Virgin)?
On electoral roll 15 years plus
1 Financial assoc Husband - Has basic bank account, 1 subprime CC (nothing negative)
    Av Credit 8K
    Used 4%
Active credit accounts 7 inc current account with small OD
    Defaults etc 0
    Late payments 1

Any idea if you think I'd have a chance...I have 2 sub prime CC at the moment but would like to do a BT from one of them?

    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi Jack,

Blimey I wish my info was as good as yours :) Personally, I don't think that you would have a problem getting a 0% cc. You've got great address history, no defaults and only using 4% of available credit. Do you know how many searches are on your file? If you don't have too many searches I think you have a very good chance!

Let us know how you get on x

    Aah gotcha ;)

Just to understand your position, did the T&C's for the bank account list that they may apply these charges? Also did the direct debit come out in error, or was it correctly set up to come out from this bank account?

If yes to both of these, then the bank's probably done nothing illegal. They state that they MAY pay DD's when insufficient funds are in the account, or they MAY return them. It's their call.

You say you haven't gone overdrawn on money used for purchases - but you have really, it's just been via a direct debit rather than card / cheque transaction.

If these fees have been correctly (albeit harshly) applied to your account, then you do owe the bank this money - and they won't want to close the account without this being repaid.

It is possible that the bank MAY choose to be lenient, if the account has previously been run well, but it would be down to their discretion if they want to do this.

it happened before then i tld them not to honour anything, bt they still run

the acc is run poorly because im in and out of psych units and i tell them this stop allowing the DD's n they did, i went in for a long spell came bk n owed like 250 or something

    Thanks for the reply Sammy_Girl

The reason I asked is the 1st CC I tried for was my own bank but got an instant rejection.
I have Vanquis £500 limit and Aqua £1000....my salary is only 20K so not huge but household salary is around 40k so not too bad.
I have 3 CC searches/applications made in Oct/Nov 2008 my bank..which refused me, Vanquis and Aqua...would it be better to wait a few months before I try for a 0% BT card?

I would wait a few months before you make any more new searches. What bank are you with?

It's certainly worth just talking to the bank - going down the route of legalities etc. probably won't help, as they could stand their ground - hopefully they will take your situation into account and help you out... nothing to lose?

Co-op are quite harsh in their credit scoring. I would definitely give MBNA (like Virgin) or RBS (like Ulster Bank or NatWest) a go. They normally give you instant decisions too.
