Some advice for a novice card holder(thats me!) if you could please.
When i got my vanquis card a while back it was in the middle of my pay cycle, so when the statement comes through it shows only what i have spent to that point but i know i have spent more. I phone them up to pay and pay off the whole balance that is not on the statement but the card.
Is this a good idea to increase my credit score with this card or shall i just pay off what the statement pays? Is over paying a good thing?one of the famous 50 -

Hi Geordie,
To be honest it's best to pay what your statement balance is as cc providers don't like you having a positive balance on your credit card. You get I think 56 days interest free credit, so when a statement is dated say the 18th December, then it should show all purchases made between the 18 Nov and 18 Dec. If you went out and bought something on the 19 Dec then that's not going to show yet. You don't need to pay for that purchase until it shows on your next statement.
I have a Vanquis and pay it off in full every month, and I haven't had a credit increase limit yet. I've had the card since May I think and I still have a £250 limit lol0 -

Hi Sammy girl,
thats what i was thinking. But if i have a statement for,say £100 but the actual balance on the card is £200 with the second £100 to be carried over to the next statement will they stilol get the hump if i pay off the card in full and not just the statement?
this all confuses me as i want to rebuild properly and at least if i pay off the card in full then i know where i am and not go too overboard each month.one of the famous 50 -

There is no problem with doing this, but why not keep the second £100 in an interest bearing account earning you a few extra pennies until you actually have to pay it.
Provided you settle the Statement Balance in full you do not have to pay any interest to your Card Provider.0 -
