I was gently suggesting that the level of discussion on here was becoming OTT and childish but, apparently, you don't do moderation.

Earlier, I suggested that, like teachers, DWP employees and dustmen, EAs come in a huge assortment, so tarring them all with the same brush is just stereotyping. However, unlike the other occupations mentioned, the consumer gets to choose the agent they employ, and I think it is quite likely that shysters & plonkers are employed by poorly informed or like-minded individuals.

Davesnave, all the small-minded idiots on here like to tar everyone with the same brush because they don't have the intelligence or imagination to think otherwise!

Are all Estate Agents Men now then????
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)

And how is the average consumer supposed to tell if an estate agent is a shyster or a plonker?

    Actually there is one way:

    Toss a coin

If it lands heads the estate agent is a shyster
If it lands tails the estate agent is a plonker
If it lands on its side the estate agent is honest

Good point. At the moment, mine are, but last year some splendid ladies did an excellent job on another property, more than justifying their fee.

And, for the benefit of arabianights, the way I chose both agencies was by research. Had I tossed a coin on last year's property and it had come down tails, I'd now be £18k worse off.
