When it comes to obsessive saving, I think nobody beats Sarah, the First Duchess of Marlborough, who never dotted her i's in order to save ink!

I agree, Morrisons is the ONLY supermarket I can use at the moment which doesn't 'do my head in'. I know I've got a funny head, but the acoustics in ALL the others reduce me to a jibbering wreck within 5 minutes. I don't know what it is about Morrisons - it's a new store, nice wide aisles - but I've been into a couple of Asdas lately and come out feeling really ill, without even trying to do a 'full shop'.

Morrisons stores are all built with bricks and mortar. The majority of other supermarkets are built cheaply with the stuff they build warehouses from. (Don't know what the method is called but its all metal and plastic)

I'm another person who works Morrisons. :o

It's a good point. If you watch a supermarket being built, they throw them up in no time. Seems like most of them are made of Meccano.

Savvy Sue, have you thought that you may be electrosensitive? All the cables, fluorescent lights, and other electronic equipment inside a big metal box may be having an adverse effect. Similar to the effects from mobile phones and masts too.
  • As most of you know, I'm agoraphobic and can't currently even go out at all, but when I've had periods of "remission" in the past I still find supermarkets a huge struggle, and it's not just because of people being around me, as I've tried going to the 24hr Tesco in the early hours of the morning when it's absolutely dead (although stupid me forgot you can't buy fresh bakery stuff and alcohol at that time of day  ) but just being in certain supermarkets, especially Tesco, is enough to trigger a panic attack

I've not shopped in a Morrisons for several years now, as we don't have one very local, but I was always fine going there for some reason. Where I live now we have a Co-op and a Budgens, and before I got bad again I'd go to both, but always felt panicky in the Budgens one for some reason

The main place I used to get panic attacks in was C & A. There are three tesco's near me I can go in two of them but one of them I just cannot go in.

  • Can I have a rant about supermarkets?

Gone off the subject slightly I know but just want to get some grumbles off me chest.

People that dawdle round supermarkets.........some of us are on a time limit and havnt got all day!!

Screaming kids...........Every single week I do my shopping at asda you hear a screaming kid. (Used to leave mine with my mother when mine were at this stage as its no fun for anyone and yes I know not every one can do this.) The checkout staff must be able to turn off to it cos it would do my head in!

People that block aisles with their trolleys while they catch up on the gossip with some other inconsiderate person they havnt seen for ages. (By all means have your chat but move out the bloody way!)

People that stand for hours at the one part of the shelf you need to be at...slooooooooowlllllly reading all the labels and then giving it the full discussion with their shopping buddy. You either want it or you dont!

Cashiers that shout.."im closing after this customer" as you approach their checkout. Not the assistants fault I know but stores shoul get signs so you can see clearly when a till is closing.

Grrrrrrrrrr Im a mardy bum tonight I know but there you go.....I now await the backlash :o

I am obsessed with Old styling!

My OH has a Masters in environmental science and used to do consultant type stuff for Kensington and Chelsea so has a real passion for recycling... but if he puts a tea bag in the bin instead of the little pot to go in the compost I make sure he gets it and puts it in its proper place!! :D

Also, I hate people in supermarkets who take forever, I try and be quick but it still seems to take way too long to do a shop, my OH's mother spends literally hours in there! I would go nuts, I honestly believe they make them really big so that they can suck your soul away while stroll round!

I say RUN don't Walk!! Then you also don't get sidetracked by all the stuff you don't need/ shouldn't eat!!! :D
oooh look only about 220 posts and I got round to doing my Avatar already!!
  • Sweat-pea - did you tell OH off for calling you on the mobile from Sainsburys? That prob cost as much as the yoghurts!

No, had never thought of that ... might explain why Tesco started doing my head in when they took the ceiling tiles down for refurbishment! Haven't been back since ... Will have to take a more scientific approach to this and consider 'how things were built'. The Mall at Cribbs Causeway for example - that's dreadful too!
