I have become obsessed

Options
Is it normal to become obsessed with the amount of money you are spending after coming onto this site? I have in the mere week I have been on here:
Changed my suppliers where it will save me money
Done my food shop purely out of value and reduced items
Bought vinegar
Started noting down the electric meter reading every morning to compare how much I have used each day
Started cooking all my own meals.
Looking at ebay for slow cookers instead of dvds and books.

Also my dad has requested that I stop sending him random texts(using my free texts of course) telling him how much money I have just saved by doing whatever, or sharing some random tip i have picked up as he really doesnt need to know, especially at 3am.

Old style is addictive!

  • :rotfl: Normal? Nah-no way! But who realy wants to be normal? We are all affected on here-have this sort of compulsive repetitive disorder thingy regarding money. Like apart from bread and milk I only buy BOGOFS! Unless Im spending vouchers or buying up end of date food. Those normal people out there have to cut back on everything cos they are so uninformed or careless. I think you have it sussed! :rotfl: :j :money:

  • You sound like me...lol

I dont pay full price for anything. Look around for vouchers if i need to buy something. Have cut food from £85+ a week to £30 etc etc.
    I love it!!

  • I havnt gone to quite the lengths of OP !! but Yes.......it does become rather addictive and I think i'm seriously getting on my OH's nerves querying him about where our "joint" money is being spent.

Makes it quite a struggle when he hasn't got the same attitude to money as me but i've noticed he's started looking out for coupons for me ;) even though he hasnt quite got the urge to actually use them when he does the shopping.

Ah well I'm moving in the right direction I guess.....slowly but surely :rotfl:

Normal?? What's that then? :rotfl:
My house is cleaner , my bank account healthier, we're eating better, due to the vinegar fabric conditioner I can now wash all our clothes together as it doesn't affect my daughters delicate skin (before I had to wash her underwear & pj's seperately with a super rinse & then rinse again). Vinegar rinse aid works better than old one & is much cheaper, run dishwasher without the drying cycle on as the heat left in the machine dries them anyway.
Buy magazines because of the value of vouchers in them not because I want to read them.
Toiletries seem to appear free from Boots
Cheese and meats free from Tescos
Combined elec&gas dd was dropped by £20 last month so I'm using the saving to buy more energy saving light bulbs
All in a couple of months!
I don't want to be normal anymore - I'm having far to much fun being smug :D
Oh and my dad's sick of all my tips as well (but he is enjoying the savings!!!)

This site is great, once again I must mention the "New Posts" button, above, you can't go to bed until there isn't any:rotfl:

That might explain why I was up till gone 2am this morning then :rotfl:

People really must stop posting after midnight so we can all get to bed at a reasonable hour :p:D

Oh and who mentioned "addicted" "obsessive" and "compulsive" .... what me? .... no, NEVER  :rotfl:

  • Yes! Yes! Yes! I know exactly what you mean!

I'm constantly aware of the money I'm spending and saving - always planning meals and looking out for deals, vouchers and discounts. It's actually starting to feel like a hobby!

    I love it too!!!

Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Photogenic I've been Money Tipped!
I've been talking about savings etc so much my sister is now a member here and my mum reads here as well.

Infact my nan got a letter from British Gas last week and during our weekly visit on Saturday my dad said I should read it (it's usually just him who's given things like this) as I was the money person  :rotfl: I just checked it over to make sure everything was Okay and confirmed what it said. ;)

My OH is starting to save money as well - he's actually slightly excited I think at the thought of having a £0 balance on one of our credit cards soon :D
Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.
Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!
  • Now today (crikey-yesterday now) I read my electric meter cos £15 a week is just ridiculous! Going to read it every day and note what I did that day-wash loads-d/washer etc. Also a column for the cost-then I know where its going!
Then I popped in Waitrose, to see what I could get for free. Got the saturday Times-for the dvd and the Independant for a puzzle cd for the computer. Bought £12 worth of goods and handed in 4.33 of coupons-just gonna have to print some more now! In that shopping, I invested in 2x 5 packs of baco tub-its. These are semi-disposable dishes/lids for fridge, freezer, microwave and dishwasher. Tomorrow, I shall do a multicook and fill them all up-I just hope I have enough room in the freezer. Waitrose also give nice shiny recipe cards away every month-I have a big stack of them now-about 12months of collecting. I think I did well. Got to try to hang out until Tuesday now, when my Tesco delivery arrives-£10 e-coupon for that one. Its going well-cant help the OCD though-Im just glad Im not alone with this compulsion!

  • Flipping eck! I've never thought about reading my gas/electric meter!!!

I get through Electricity like no one's business.

Another thing to add on my daily list of "things to do""!
