    HI

Does "Sue" go to the same school as your dd? If so is their a friendly teacher or year head you could call in confidence?

Any of the possibilities are of concern, if the story is true (which I think is unlikely) Sue needs support, if it is a hoax, she needs support and if she has made this up for attention she needs support.

I had a similar (not the same) expereince when my DD told me that a girl was taking slimming pills and not eating, other girls started to do the same and they were having competitions who could eat the least. My dd was getting worried and confided in me. I thought if it were my child I would want a grown up to take the appropriate action. I phoned the school spoke to the very nice year head. Explained what my dd had said, that it may well be bravado but I was concerned for the girls. The year head was very grateful it lead to teachers monitoring the situation some girls getting support and a whole project of them being healthy.

Schools have pastoral care support and mentors and even counsellors in the school these days. At least you will know you have left it in the hands of the proffessionals.

    Hope that helps

Hope this doesn't shock you,but it's not uncommon. Is there any culture of self-harm at the school?
This girl may be using this story to mask something else she can't cope with.

I agree it sounds like a hoax. (on the girl's part rather than the boy's - if he exists at all).

However a friend of mine who was not a teenager (22), who had a boyfriend we all knew well, was informed by text of his sad death. I won't go into details as it may make her recognisable, but he was away travelling and a family member of his sent her a text message. Luckily her housemates were in when she recieved it.

(we all went to the funeral so I know that this wasn't a hoax, unfortunately)
