Abbey are useless

I have a tale to tell! I used to have an account with Abbey National when I was a teenager and when I went in there the staff looked at me as if I was a criminal so I vowed to boycott them forever. However, I recently decided to bite the bullet and tried to open an ISA with them online. I heard nothing for 2 weeks so I opened one with Alliance & Leicester with no problems. This week, I have received an Abbey cash point card which I didn't ask for. So I have to conclude that Abbey are useless and I will never use them again.
p.s. in the interests of fairness I will say that I also boycott Halifax and HSBC for other reasons.
I think that would make a good discussion - which financial institutions do you hate most and why?! And don't get me started on shops - I could write about Currys for a week! :rotfl:

My wife and I opened a monthly saver each by post at the beginning of January. It's a long story but we are still waiting for our passbooks and they've kept our ID.0

Safari run under Mac OS X is not one of Abbey's supported browsers. Sigh!0

Which probably means no firefox, opera or other browsers which dont use IE as the backbone. Thats bad by todays standards and even IE 8 is moving towards being a standards based browser.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). I don't get this point. All Abbey ISAs come with cash cards, so if you applied for an ISA you asked for a cash card as well. I don't think waiting 2 weeks for an account to be opened is unreasonable, though that's your call. Make sure Abbey cancel your ISA application though, as you can't have 2 in the same tax year.
Well I didn't realise Abbey's ISA came with a cash card and I don't see why it's needed. None of my other ISA's over the years have had one. I thought waiting 2 weeks to hear anything is unreasonable when you read that banks etc are desperate for saver's money. When I applied for an ISA with Alliance & Leicester, I got an e-mail saying I'd been approved in under an hour. That's all I ask for!0 -

I also applied for an Abbey ISA and I'm disgusted with the slow and poorly explained service.
I've received a dribble of poorly explained corresponadance over the past 5 weeks that frequently contradicts itself or is unclear. I've also tried getting advice from Customer Services via telephone, but have either been passed from department to department or have been give poor advice (I was assured that I didn't need to set up an external nominated account to transfer money in online, only to be told a week later - when the money hadn't materialised - that actually I did need to set up an external nominated account ... which would take about 3 more weeks to complete.
In short, it'll take me about 9 weeks from applying for the account before I manage to get this years allowance into it ... a really poor, unclear, over-complicated mess of a service. I won't ever bother with Abbey again.  :mad:0 -
