Where to hire TENS?
Comments
-
I hired mine off the internet, where the prices seem to be the same on all the sites, such as the one honeypop mentioned. With hindsight I would have bought one on Ebay, as then you sell it back and keep your money. Or hired one from the hospital - I didn't do this as the trek to hospital was too far to go fetch it when in early labour.
I didn't have a chance to use it in the end anyway, just one of the many money wasting ideas you have to make your life better as labour approaches  (I have a box of paraphinalia I HAD to have for labour, which never even came out the bag...):wall:0 -
I hired them for both of my births - first time Mothercare, second from Tesco. Would recommend either. Used it for birth one and it was the only form of 'pain relief' I used. Have to say it was a nice distraction to fiddle with the controls but don't really think it helped ease the pain. With DS2 we didn't have time to hook up the TENS as everything happened too quickly.
Good luck with everything! If you want the rainbow, you've got to put up with the rain :wave:0 -
I bought one from ebay for about £16 I think. (it's now being borrowed by various pregnant friends!) there's no point hiring one for £30-40, I'm sure you can buy one new for less than that if you shop around on the internet.
Did find it helpful, although found out afterwards I wasn't using it properly.... (It's supposed to be on all the time, then you use the boost when you have a contraction - I switched mine off in between!) perhaps it would have been more useful if I'd read the instructions first0 -
i was given one to use free on labour ward, i'd been convinced it would be worthless and wouldnt work but the really nice midwife convinced me to give it a go, i doubt every labour ward has them lying around for ladies to use though.twins on board0

Boots are selling their £50 machine for £25 as long as you buy online at the moment.
I use mine for back pain, but it says in the instruction manual that the model I use is suitable for pregnancy.
Being a bloke and liking gadgets it quite cool too as it is digital.....0 -
I too bought from e-bay about 4 years ago. I have used it for my 2 girls & I have had about 10 friends use it, all we have had to do is buy the pads from boots (it is a boots machine).
I would recommend it to anyone, although it did not take the pain away fully I tried it at the level I had it on later on & it was very painful - so it must have been doing a lot!
Good luck with the birth

just read this - does it say suitable for labour or just pregnancy? You need one suitable for labour.

This is the half price Boots one, it is not suitable for labour as the pads aren't big enough and there's no boost button. Just for normal pain releif it's fab though as I have one and couldn't do without it for my chronic back pain (which was cured by pregnancy! Hooray for relaxin!)
This one is the Boots maternity one though but it isn't on the half price offer.
The one from Tescos looks really good imo, but personally I'm tempted to buy one and then sell it on afterwards as that was there's slightly less faffing and tiem constraints :-)Comping, freebieing and trying to pay the mortgage off early!0 -

This would probably be the type for general pain, not labour
I know not all hospitals do, but my hospital hires them out for free - it's worth asking your midwife if she knows of anything locally which is NHS subsidised.I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right0 -
What about Ebay?
And then sell it again on Ebay when you've finished"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0
