Where to hire TENS?

Where is the best place to hire a tens machine? Mothercare and boots are £30 for 4-6 weeks and that seems like a lot to me. You can buy one for £45 in boots! Is it worth buying one? OR does anyone have any recomendations for hiring?
Thanks in advance

    Hi
I hired one for DD1 and found it more distracting than pain-relieving and didn't bother for DD2. There are some internet sites where you can hire them, not sure of price. I guess if you bought one, you could always flog it on afterwards?!
    hth anyway...
PS good luck with it! (the birth, that is, not the TENS machine)

Thanks. That's the thing, people I spoke to have said different things about how useful they found them! I'm not sure what to do based on that eaither!

    Hi there,
Do you have a children's centre near you? I had one from a childrens centre and it was a minimal fee. HTH

saw them very cheaply to buy in lloyds pharmacy a few months ago...around 12-15 quid i think? Didn't need one at the time so not sure if it would be suitable for your needs.

I hired mine from my local surestart centre, have a look here for your nearest:
    http://www.surestart.gov.uk/surestartservices/settings/fundedsettings/

You have to be registered but it doesn't take long and then ask to speak to the midwife there (usually they're based there) It cost me £10 to hire it but after labour the midwife will 'phone and return the deposit when she comes to collect the tens machine. I think the Tens Machine mentioned above from Superdrug is not for pain relief in labour. Sorry!!

Boots charge £29.99 plus a £25 deposit, so a big initial outlay even if you do get the £25 back.

I hired mine from tesco for £25. It didn't take the pain away but I went into very intense contractions very quickly with no time for the tens to build up the endorphins in early labour. I just had to whack it on full power straight away. I was glad to have it though as it gave me something to focus on and I think it could be good pain relief in the right circumstances. You never know what sort of labour you are going to have!

I'm assuming you want one for the birth of a baby.

I hired mine from the hospital free of charge (they asked for a holding deposit of £150 as a cheque which was ripped up when I returned it).

I definately found it useful. Be warned the TENS machines from Lloyds and Boots at around £45 don't always have the boost button which is needed for child birth. These ones tend to be much more expensive.

I have hired from http://www.tens-hire.co.uk/ before, excellent service. I didn't hire it for a birth but for back pain but they do specialise in tens machines for birth.

Costs £23.95 for 6 weeks for child birth or £23.50 for 3 weeks for general pain relief (different machines), plus free postage each way.
