As you can see from my other posts, I have had no luck since November 07.

It's annoying that there are hundreds of people who just don't pay anything and seem to get treat better than those who are trying to pay their debts.

It took us three months to get them to pass it over, we had stopped paying though and told them they would get nothing till it was passed or the interest stopped.

Symikins it seems that you were very lucky. I have been battling with HBOS since November 2007 and they still won't budge. All I have paid off in the 14 months they accepted my reduced payment and froze the interest has been wiped out and even more added on (not only due to interest but also late payment charges).

My case is now with the Financial Ombudsman as I am so incensed by the whole thing - seems very unfair when you don't ask for huge amounts to be written off, just a bit of help with the freezing of interest.

    Well done you!

its very time comsuming, stressful and tiring, but worth it l would never had thought of doing any of this but when your backs against the wall its suprising what u can do .. good luck with the fos ,let us know how u get on

I've just had a thought. If HBOS have agreed to re-freeze interest and pay back any interest and charges that have been applied to Symikins' account then surely this is setting some kind of precedent!

Should I mention this to the FOS as I think that it could be pretty important and work in our favour?

the fos contacted the halifax to ask them to " review their decision" so it does seem that they can be more flexible after the fos delivered a size 10 up their bum !!

f they can do it for me then why not others ???
id mention it and good luck ......;)

This is happening to me as well

We have been on DMP for well over a year, things were ticking along - until HBOS and another have started to charge interest:confused:

Its ridiculous all the payments we have made of 220.00 per month are now wiped out the fools. If they carry on we will be in more debt and the only option an IVA or bankruptcy.

To be honest i do wonder if i should have done that in the first place as we would owe less than half and there would be no slapping interest back on.

They will not gain anything by doing this, if people cannot pay the debt off how can the situation get any better - The halifax lends irresponsibly, then when were in trouble digs the hole deeper and wants to fill it in as well

So what is everyone doing to try to get them to stop interest and charges

    writing a letter to bank

    then if no luck FOS??

What can we do to stop them charging interest?

why dont they just pass the debt on to debt collection agency??

same as u been on dmp with cccs for 16 mths hbos froze interest for
1yr then put it back on + late payment fees for last six mths
l complained to hbos and asked for it to be frozen again+ pass to dca ,they refused saying it would take 7 mths to do this
wrote back saying not happy + seems like a moneymaking scheme and they sent final letter refusing to budge
downloaded complaint form from fos website and sent off with correspondance about it from hbos
fos asked them to review their decision , and had letter from hbos 3 days later refunding all interest and late fees put on for last 6 months "as a gesture of goodwill" and agreed to forward it to dca shortly

fos are very helpful let us know how u get on

Wow i am so glad that i popped over here again

I think it is great those of you who have complained re interest and late charges

This is what i am going to do

So i will send an initial letter to HBOS and wait untill i get their final response then to the FOS.

    Thanks folks

Glad to see that more and more people are using the FOS - I think we sometimes forget they are there to help us all.

Update on my case. I had a letter from the AA credit card saying "we are sorry to hear of your complaint" - laughed at that one, obviously had their heads up their bums since November! Turns out they had received correspondence from the FOS and are looking into the matter.

Good luck everyone - lets keep each other updated!

PS Thanks for your posts Simykins - it helps to know other people have fought and won!
  • Hi all.

I'm in the same boat as many of you dealing with HBOS.

I've been on my DMP with Payplan for just over 2 years slowly but surely clearing my debt.

I have numerous creditors on my DMP and 3 of those with Halifax (1 loan + 2 cc). The loan and a credit card have had no interest or charges added since the start of my dmp, but the other cc has had interest and late fees applied since august 2007 which has amounted to nearly £1000.

I would be very grateful if one of the people who have written to Halifax and had their charges stopped to post a copy of their letter for reference, even if it was then referred t the FOS.

Many thanks to you all, as i thought it was just me with this problem.:T

    Hi Gettingdebtfree

Sorry to hear you are having trouble with this too.

Firstly, as you have probably gathered from the previous posts, it is something that HBOS initiated back in November 2007 so even though they say you only get 12 months interest free and that is the policy (even though many of us have had longer) it is rubbish!

Secondly, if you look at page 1 of this thread you will see letters that people have written (a couple I posted that were written by a lawyer friend) although don't hold you breath on any responses.

You obviously have to go through the motions of writing to them etc but don't wait too long as they will drag it out as long as they possibly can. I have had a quicker response since writing to the FOS than I ever had before (not difficult as it was non-existent)!

I strongly recommend that you write to the FOS once you have sent letters as these companies need to know that we are serious about clearing out debt but won't be bullied or taken for fools.

I have found this website such help at times because I, like you, now know I'm not the only one it's happening to!

Good luck and keep us posted on how you get on. ;)
  • I posted a new thread about an hour ago, ranting about Barclaycard doing exactly the same thing, while I could afford to make payments of £62 a month the £15 interest wasn't to much of a problem, now I can only make payments of £19.20 its going to take forever to pay of the balance at £4.20 a month!
