Why wont Halifax freeze interest on my CC?

Halifax did the same with me. After a year of everything going smoothly, they suddenly said that my time was up and my situation must have improved so I had to pay up the interest etc each month. I got so frustrated by the brick wall on the other end of the phone, to my shame I told her to eff off and sue me because when I declare BR, they would get eff all out of me then.
A few months later, and others stated to follow suit and refused to accept my offers (although I had been paying for 18months or so by now). Its not the only reason I eventually went bankrupt, but it was one. I was trying to sort out my life and finances and I needed some help. The help was forthcoming but only for a period of time. It was the nastiness and persistantness of these companies that finally forced my hand. If they had continued to all accept my DMP I doubt I would have gone BR and would have really pushed to pay them - BR was not something I really wanted to do, but its also not something I regret either.0 -
Oh Dear, exactly the same thing happened to me but with LTSB see here
There was some great advice on that thread that might help you and also a letter template

This is happening to me as well
We have been on DMP for well over a year, things were ticking along - until HBOS and another have started to charge interest
Its ridiculous all the payments we have made of 220.00 per month are now wiped out the fools. If they carry on we will be in more debt and the only option an IVA or bankruptcy.
To be honest i do wonder if i should have done that in the first place as we would owe less than half and there would be no slapping interest back on.
They will not gain anything by doing this, if people cannot pay the debt off how can the situation get any better - The halifax lends irresponsibly, then when were in trouble digs the hole deeper and wants to fill it in as well
So what is everyone doing to try to get them to stop interest and charges
writing a letter to bank
then if no luck FOS??
What can we do to stop them charging interest?
why dont they just pass the debt on to debt collection agency??“most people give up just as they are about to achieve success”If you think you are going through hell keep going - Sir Winston ChurchillIf You Can't Change It, Change the Way You Think About It.SW, 13st5lb, -4 1/2, -1,(12st13.5lbs)0 -
Hi Flange.
Are you with a fee paying debt management company or CCCS / Payplan / CAB?

Its what I love about running our own DMP, I'm in control and if creditors don't play fair I pull them up for it. Trick is to switch off when the talk crap know your rights and learn to repeat yourself repeatedly, in the end they have a choice listen, move you to a DCA or file bankruptcy on you. All the letters phone calls and thinly valed threats cost them money, for nothing they can't take what you havn't got.Barclaycard 3800

Anychance you are right, when will they stop? They say they want the money back but what do they think we are trying to do?
When I started my DMP with Payplan, I was so overjoyed that I was in control and felt proud that I wasn't having any of the money written off... now this.
It is soul destroying to be honest and puts more pressure on you, your relationships etc.
The FOS are about to start looking into this (had a letter from them yesterday) and although I'm very nervous I am also feeling quite strong as it is about time we all got together and stuck two fingers up at them and made it clear to these people that we won't be pushed around, only want to be treated fairly and if they push us too far we will fight.
I think that everyone who this is affecting should write to the FOS (there is a complaint form on their website) and en masse we can try and change things - remember bank charges?
Good luck everyone!0 -
I've just had a thought. If HBOS have agreed to re-freeze interest and pay back any interest and charges that have been applied to Symikins' account then surely this is setting some kind of precedent!
Should I mention this to the FOS as I think that it could be pretty important and work in our favour?0 -

Sorry!!In Jan 2007 I had a debt of £27,896.00 :eek:In October 2011 I paid it off and owned £0.00 - Kinda proud of this!:T0 -
Has anyone had any luck forcing them to send it to a DCA earlier than the 6 months. I have told them I am unalbe to pay and will continue to be unable to pay they've basicaly said get stuffed we are adding the interest and fees anyway and will not send it to a DCA for 6 months. Adding a further £1000 to my debt for no other reason than they can. I would have been better off just stoping paying them and not trying to come to any arraingement."You are entitled to your own opinions but not your own facts" - Arthur Schlesinger
