  • In this case, the issue appears to be that the filter now has dust in it which I would guess, on the balance of probability, was not present when produced. My question would be though that isn't the filter there to prevent dust egress, so unless it was so severely blocked by lack of maintenance, should not be causing a problem with the motor. Some dust on the filter should be expected shouldn't it?[/quote]

Generally there are two filters in a vacuum - a pre motor filter to stop particles clogging the motor and an air filter to stop finer particles going back into the air. if either of these filters are blocked then the air flow is inhibited, The vacuum loses suction and the motor overheats.
Belts can break and when they break they sometimes can cause smoking if they are jammed against the motor drive . Electrolux usually supply a spare with the vacuum.
Sales staff should know this as this information can be found in the instruction book.
  • My hoover is a panasonic, it has four filters. Two in the cylinder bag section which are emptied washed and dried naturally before they are used again. the other filter is on the back of the hoover, and the smaller one is under the cylinder section (when you take it off its a little black sponge). All mine are kept clean regularly. I have had this hoover a year. the spinning brush attachment I have replaced three times via the manufacturer for free as after a while (even though the filters are free of dirt) it stops spinning. I have cleaned the brush head and put back together, but still useless. This model is the MCE-4103 pet hair remover.

At first it worked brilliantly for two weeks. Now its suction is variable. I have followed the book with it to the word. I just think there is no perfect pet hair remover vacuum cleaner.

Doesn't seem to help the situation, at the end of the day i used the hoover for its purpose, it wasn't clogged up to the extent where there was no suction etc the thing just sparked and smoked, 2 months old it shouldn't be doing that really. I had a vax cylinder hoover from argos, after 10 months it started to over heat so i took it back to the store where they just swapped it over there and then, after all it was still under guarantee. One guy apologised and couldn't say sorry enough, even he said i shouldn't of been treated in the way we were, point proven. Currys are cowboys!

Been reding with great interest as bought a hoover from Currys a month or so ago, it made a funny noise from the first day but thorght it must be just the way it sounds, now its not picking up anything, you have to keep going over the same place loads of times and thin its just pushing the dirt around.
So dreading returning it, i vowed never to buy anything from there the last time i had a show down with them about a camera, but needed a hoover quick and it was the closest place around. At least i bought it with a credit card !
