Just one thought - dirt in the filter? Are you not meant to use the hoover for vacuuming up that sort of thing?

I had a similar argument with them over a panasonic hoover advertised as a pet hoover.

When I took it back they told me it was because I was using it to vacuum pet hair!!!

They did replace eventually, but it was such a crap model I went back to my old Dyson.

The item is clearly not fit for purpose (section 14(4) Sale of Goods Act) as it cannot cope with...hoovering.

You have a remedy against currys. I've sued them...twice...and each time they have paid up straight away.

Did you pay by credit card? If so, you also have rights against the card issue under section 75 Consumer Credit Act. Get in touch with them and follow the path of least resistance to get your refund.

Are you sure it doesn't come with 2 years warranty, the 2nd year is usually with the manufacturer.

Even if it doesn't, it should last you six years, email consumer direct, they'll tell you exactly what you need to write to the store and they'll also pass your email onto trading standards.

The "it should last 6 years" is not true. The six year period is a contract limitation period where you have to start a claim within 6 years of the breach. The law does not set down a time period for things to last for. It should only be reasonably durable. What this will mean will depend on all of the circumstances.

I had a great experience with Currys last year. Saw a glass LCD TV stand on the website for 1p, reserved it and went to collect. Upon my arrival I was told a !!!! and bull story about it being a discontinued item and "There's a piece of wood sat in the stock room where the stand was."

Due to the bloke being a real git about it I decided to push my luck and phoned CS while I was still on the car park about it. They were very apologetic and offered me £25 in gift vouchers. Result.

I then received a phone call from the store saying that it was a misprice and that I could have one but it would be £99. I kicked up a little fuss about the first chap lying to me and they agreed to honour the 1p price.

Fantastic result for an hour on Saturday morning.
Bet match total as of 04/10 = God Knows + About £1000 Quidco. Time for Mrs Huddsta to have a crack!!!

Yeah i know dirt eh? Hoovers just aren't made for that lol pathetic! im sure that their trained in currys to fob off the customer, its like they never believe you when you say the item is broke and you just can't use it.. after cooling down i phoned up electrolux who said i could take it to a shop 15 miles from me to get a free inspection, at least the guy who's doing it is independent therefor doesn't give a hoot if it needs replaced or not. Meantime im hooverless, ill have to buy a carpet sweeper like what the old granny's have... Least it won't burst out into flames!!! :rotfl:
Baby number 2 due April 2010, were having a girl!!! :j

But did you use credit card for the purchase? That would be the simple solution.

i would like to draw everyones attention to the sales of goods act 1979 which states that any fault in the first 3 months of any plug in eletrical item, it is assumed that the fault was there at the start when you bought it and you are entitled to a full refund or replacement. any reporting of the fault to the manufacturer is the responsibility of the company you bought it from, not you.

    good luck!
