All of the reminders / adverts that they have are just affiliated to the companies. They simply get a cut / commission of any sale they make through their adverts.
I know that a Gas or electric switch or sale can earn them up to £100 if sold through 1 of their ads. Insurance is also a big earner for them. Credit cards, can earn them up to £50. Basically anything they are able to get you to sign up to will earn them a commission.

If you have a look through quidco or Topcashback you will be able to see the kind of commission that these companies pay.

As for the free samples, they will also get payed to give these away, as the companies know that they are getting to pottentially new customers at the time they are most likely to change their usual habits / routines. So the manufacturers are simply hoping for your future custom on these.

Sounds like he turned his freebies away.

Yes the Moving Box is sponsored by Scottish Electric but that doesn't mean you've signed up for them to supply you. Inside the box there are details about their services but that is no different to the money off vouchers from the other companies they have included their products in it.

The reminders were sent from the site and it is all free to use.

I can understand his reluctance but there are no rules that say delivery vans have to be brand new and clean!

    Heskpesk,
Mine arrived in a box printed with "Scottish Power" all over it. I didn't see the van as my DD accepted the delivery.

As others have said, businesses often give away freebies as a form of advertising, I don't think your parents have anything to worry about.

Maybe you could contact the Move-me site to put your mind at ease if you are concerned.

My box has Scottish Hydro, SWALEC and Southern Electric on it - I had mine the day before it was due - I haven't been asked to switch suppliers. Mind you, I am already with Scottish Power who I think have connections with Scottish Hydro. About a week or so later I received a box of 4 energy saving lightbulbs from Scottish Power too - I never asked for them.:j

The chap who delivered my box has his own courier business - he turned up today with my Lakeland order, he's a jolly nice chap.

    Hi,

I received mine a few weeks ago, and since then got an email from them asking me to complete a survey about the box. A couple of question were about Scottish Hydro, SWALEC and Southern Electric - stuff like 'are you more likely to recommend them since receiving your moving box' but they haven't switched my supplier or anything, and I'm not with those companies already. (also - from the details you give to get the box, they couldn't switch your parents account, they need more info than that).

I had my box delivered by TNT couriers (and it was a box not a bag) so if it wasn't TNT maybe it wasn't move me?
Have you spoken to move me and asked them?

    I hope that helps a bit :)

My father signed up for the move me freebie that was posted on here where you get sent a free gift when you move house. Today a battered delivery van turned up at his new address with Scotish power and other electrical companies names. They tried to deliver a free bag of goodies and he presumes its connected to the move me offer. After seeing the van he went into a bit of a panic and refused to sign for item as thought it was dodgy and did not wish to sign for anything incase it was not above board.

Now I personally think he is being over paranoid but he is now concerned that ny signing up they have attempted to switch his utilities service (because of the writing on the van).

My mother is even more worried as did not know he did this and keeps saying "Why would somebody give something away with nothing in return"

So my question is has anyone who signed up for this had a similar experience or can anyone offer any opinions as to whether they think this delivery was infact connected to the move me offer. Ref. my mother why would a company give away a free goody bag if there was not anything in it for them?

My father also states that all throughthe move process he was sent emails from move me .com with reminders like "inform post office"- "contact Life insurance firms". This sounds like a decent service so would this be free as well?

They are both worried so would apreciate opinions Thanks

Hi dont know whether this might help to alleviate his panic but.....it might have been a box of free low energy light bulbs. My next door neighbour had some delivered in a utilities van the other day. She's elderly and gets a bit confused but she reckons she never ordered them!
By the way, got my goody box last week and it all came in handy as we went down to the Renault Worls Series (as advertised on here) and camped, sp we had everything we needed....loo rolls, tea, milk...brill!:j
