My father signed up for the move me freebie that was posted on here where you get sent a free gift when you move house. Today a battered delivery van turned up at his new address with Scotish power and other electrical companies names. They tried to deliver a free bag of goodies and he presumes its connected to the move me offer. After seeing the van he went into a bit of a panic and refused to sign for item as thought it was dodgy and did not wish to sign for anything incase it was not above board.

Now I personally think he is being over paranoid but he is now concerned that ny signing up they have attempted to switch his utilities service (because of the writing on the van).

My mother is even more worried as did not know he did this and keeps saying "Why would somebody give something away with nothing in return"

So my question is has anyone who signed up for this had a similar experience or can anyone offer any opinions as to whether they think this delivery was infact connected to the move me offer. Ref. my mother why would a company give away a free goody bag if there was not anything in it for them?

My father also states that all throughthe move process he was sent emails from move me .com with reminders like "inform post office"- "contact Life insurance firms". This sounds like a decent service so would this be free as well?

They are both worried so would apreciate opinions Thanks

I got mine delivered this morning, but one of my kids signed for it so I didn't see the van that brought it.

As mentioned in an earlier post, the companies are getting free advertising. It's similar to the Bounty bags you get when you have a baby - the companies donate stuff for you to try in the hope that you'll continue to use their products.

In my box were - an energy saving lightbulb (Philips), a carton of UHT milk, 2 Bounty kitchen rolls, 4 Kleenex Velvet loo rolls, a little 100ml spray of Cif Actifizzz, an OKA catalogue, and some leaflets with money off vouchers. Best freebie I've had in ages!

    hi heskpesk,

i hope that you can re-assure them, we got our box of goodies with no probs. if anyone did come round regarding switching utilities i'd politley refuse and ask them to leave. the only thing i signed was to recieve the box from a chap in a less than shiny car but i've since seen him deliver other bits around our street so i can only assume it's a cheap courier service.
have you checked the t & c's on the 'move me' site - might they put your parents mind at ease?

I have to agree with CandyUrban:

"Best freebie I've had in ages!"

  • I've had my move me box, great freebies and a great site for reminding you of all the things you have to do when moving house. My free stuff came in a box that had scottish power on it. I wasn't here when my box arrived, it was left outside my back door so I can't say who delivered it.

My power supplies are still with the same people they were before.

The site makes money by the commision on the things they recomend, such as the moving companies.

Here's a link to the original thread, with the link to the site at the top of it

have a look at the site so that you can reassure your mum and dad, shame they turned the freebie away, but I don't think they have any need to worry at all.

I had mine delivered this morning, it came with my usual courier that brings stuff from Next and M&M Sports, so he def isn't dodgy! Altho he stinks of fags!

Anyhow, you get various leaflets and coupons, so I guess it's just a way of advertising and trying to get new homeowners into their products etc..

  • Hi there.

The reason they are giving away the freebies is because as already mentioned there is advertisements on the site, within the box you recieve and and on the box you recieve. The freebies are funded by the utility providers because they belive quite rightly that you will be choosing suppliers due to you moving home.

Thats all they are though, advertisments. You have the choice to look at the offers, or ignore them.

I recieved mine a few days ago, a budget courier delivered the box, but it was all above board. They are freebies after all and they are obviously using the most cost effective delivery method.

Its the best freebie I recieved in ages too. A philips energy saving light bulb, 4 rolls of quilted velvet toilet rolls, 2 rolls of bounty kitchen rolls, a half size bottle of Flash cleaning spray and a large bottle of UHT milk. Basically a new home welcome pack, which is delivered on the date you state that you are moving into your new home. The box was also packed with money off vouchers for the above items, a furniture catalogue and leaflets on 3 different gas/electric providers.

Hope this puts your parents mind at ease, it is a genuine offer......for people who are moving home.

  • No problem with mine - it was also delivered by our usual courier.
I am still receiving reminder emails even though my 'moving' date is long gone.
Here's hoping for another box of goodies!!
