marylee wrote:Thanks for this information. I understand, it's £14.97 a month if I join their home service as well and it is free which means I could continue to use 18866 for 01 & 01 numbers. Do I have to use their telephone service after I have subscribed as I use BT for my international calls like cheapest call which means I will not really make any calls through tesco, will that matter, I wonder?
Also with btyahoo surftime, I have to ring billing to cancel and then 150 to cancel surftime, twice I am told as BT is my ISP provider. Please what do I need to do if I want to go with Tesco Broadband besides cancelling btyahoo surftime? I guess, I can get a broadband cd and insert it on my computer, is that all I need to do? Newbie here, be gentle. How long will it take before it is activated? Thanks.
No, you don't need to actually use their telephone service if you use 18866 for your 01/02 numbers but the calls you put through someone like cheapestcall will be billed through Tesco rather than BT. If you want to put calls through BT you need to dial 1280 first to route back through BT.
However, it appears that Tesco will be cheaper than BT anyway.
According to the Tesco website you can sign up for both online and if you sign for the telephone service online you gain 5% discout? Best to go and read all the T&C's. Tesco will liase with BT regarding the switch of your home phone but as for the bb best to make sure you cancel that yourself.
Generally changing your phone supplier takes about two weeks, not sure about the bb bit.0 -
Hiya,
Reading these threads I was tempted by the e7even offer so I rang BT to try to cancel my existing broadband service. Straight away I was offered a 25% discount on my service! Plus a free upgrade modem or extra 1 month free ...
 Now I didn't take up the offer straight away. However, after doing the sums ... to take up the BT offer for 12 months (£225) would only be marginally more than 12 months with e7even (£206, taking into account £50 start up costs). The extra advantages of staying with BT would be that I wouldn't have to pay upfront (important as I may be moving), I would be with a large ISP that would definitely still be around in a year's time and have capacity to expand, I have an excellent broadband service plus I have the option to add Wi-Fi services.
So I rang up BT customer services again ...
Now I'm paying £18.75 a month with BT Broadband for a 2Mbps service with a 20Gb download limit (not a problem for me). Not sure if I'll get the extra month free as well, though - the second operator didn't seem to know about this, but I'd be happy even if this doesn't come through.
This won't be for everyone, but I've reduced my BT Broadband bill by £75 a year just by giving BT customer services a call!
:j
P.S. The 2Mbps transfer rate really makes a difference if you're calling overseas - clear, smooth speech. The time delay on 512Kb was like speaking on a 1970s phone line!0 -
I looked into uncapped services recently, when I changed my ISP, and there aren't that many completely uncapped services left – most apply limits, traffic-shaping (where they contend you with other high users) or fair-usage policies (where they restrict usage when you reach a “fair” limit) hidden in the t&c’s – like my previous ISP NDO.
Looking at ISPreview and ADSLGuide – I came up with a shortlist of four ISP’s who were offering a completely uncapped service and had good reputations along with high rankings on ISPreview. They were: Freedom2Surf, Demon, Eclipse and Zen. I also didn’t want a 12 month contract (this cut-out Demon) just in case my new ISP were to implement any new restrictions and change the service you originally purchased (also like NDO
)
In the end I decided to go with Freedom 2 Surf – on calling them I received a friendly, rapid response and their advisors were the best informed (you’d be surprised how many advisors struggled to understand what traffic-shaping/fair-usage policies were – let alone knowing whether they implemented them. Some even had difficulty grasping the idea of contention!!!!!). F2S also offered speeds up to 8Mb for no extra cost – dependant on whether your exchange/line can take it (fingers crossed that my exchange gets upgraded soon)
I’m sure you will receive a good service with any of these ISP’s (although I have read some bad reviews of Eclipse, regarding their billing system - though they always seem to have good ratings on ISPreview). You will need to bear in mind though that you will have to pay for a good ISP and a completely unlimited service – I couldn’t find one for under £25 per month.
I’m sure my list isn’t exhaustive but these are the three whose reputations I felt most happy with………
..... if anyone is thinking of signing up to F2s - PM me to take advantage of their recommendation bonus in way financially beneficial to us both

As they all will in the near future. It's called ADSL 2 and it started alpha trialling by BT last April. See this ADSLGuide article for more background info.
